Hi Norwegians!
I have Type 1 diabetes, and just got offered a job in Oslo - I currently use an Omnipod system and a Dexcom CGM system, and have been very happy with them. If I move to Norway, will I be able to have those supplied by the national healthcare system? What do most Norwegian T1 diabetics use? Trying to make the decision whether or not to move (we live in Portland, ME now).
Takk!
- Tony

I live in Norway, and I am a Norwegian citizen. I don't know what rights you have but I can tell you about what happened to me after I moved back to Norway a few years ago ,after having lived for 15 years abroad:
The national health service did provide me with a pump immediately and a CGMS system after a few years (Medtronic paradigm pump + enlite sensors). It was a bit of a struggle to get the CGMS approved. The argument that won over was that I needed it to be able to function well in a demanding job (I do!). The health services are trying to limit the costs and want to see that there each individual diabetic can show improvement in their control and real benefits before handling it out. that shouldn't be a problem for you since you already use the Dexcom.
They did not give me a choice of Omnipod / Dexcom. The way that it works is that the different health services (in my case "Helse Sør Øst", they also cover Oslo) gives out tenders and choose the suppliers of material based on those. In my area Dexcom was not selected as a supplier (Unfortunately, I prefered the Dexcom CGMS to the Medtronic CGMS.)
If I were you I would check with the health authorities a hospital in the area you are moving to. Maybe someone in Oslo area have a contact they can provide you with?
Another contact point could be the diabetes association: http://www.diabetes.no/en/
Good luck to you, and hope to meet you in Norway sometime!

Believe it or not, I'm finally here - living in Oslo. I have my first doctor's appointment next week - interested to see what they say. My job has supplemental insurance, too, so I'm hoping that will help me get approved to continue on the Omnipod - I've become rather fond of it. :)
Where are you in Norway?

Permalink Reply by Marius on October 28, 2012 at 12:47am I'm from Stavanger, but currently lives near Oslo on a place called Aas. I study on a university close to Oslo. Hope you like Norway. There are some differences from the US. I've been in the the US once. I was in New York, and enjoyed my stay. Hope your able to keep your omnipod, seems like a great pump. I have got this old medtronic pump, and currently we don't have omnipod in Norway. I hope it will come some day!

Permalink Reply by Tony Elmquist on April 29, 2013 at 1:40am So far so good - the Omnipod rep here has been very helpful - I have to go up to Ullevaal to get my supplies, but that's not a big deal. Still waiting to hear on my approval for the Dexcom - I think I will follow up today.
