Check out ACT1 diabetes - they're a support group and more in NYC. ACT1 stands for Adults Coping with Type 1. Their website is: www.act1diabetes.org/ -- although it didn't seem to be working for me right now. They're quite active -- if you're having trouble figuring out how to get in contact, just let me know-- I have some old emails from them in my email from when I attended a meeting or two back in the day.

I went to one at Joslin when I was diagnosed, about 18 years ago and it was all T2s who were completely uneducated. I wrote it off til now. Realizing I'm feeling really isolated with this disease!

I'm interested in a NYC group, too. I feel like this should be easier to find than it is!

My PCP referred me to Dr Liao as well, but she was so booked that her office manager referred me to someone else- Dr Nandi, who I have seen once and have not made up my mind about yet. My impression was that she doesn't have that much experience yet, which I'm trying to keep an open mind about. I am curious to hear about Dr. Liao and any other endo recommendations in NYC!

I am on a moderately low-carb diet (40-70 carbs/day) and I do not want an endo who is going to tell me to eat more carbs and take more insulin!

Hi, everyone. I'm new to this group/community, but have been T1 since 1980. I'm looking for a new endo/internist in Manhattan to replace my much-beloved doctor who died last April. I'm now on my third )o: I have an appt with Dr. Emilia Liao. Does anyone on the list have experience with her?
