I have diligently been trying to breastfeed LO but he just will not latch. I am supplementing with pumped breast milk for now but he gets so mad when I give him some time to try and nurse that he gets sick. It's just making both of us miserable and I'm not enjoying baby time. Not to mention between trying to nurse, bottle feeding AND pumping I'm not finding time to take care of myself and my diabetes. :(

So, my questions are, if you formula feed...

Did you feel guilty and/or did anyone make you feel guilty about formula feeding?

What's the reason you decided to formula feed?

What kind of formula are you using?

Will it really be that awful for my baby if I don't breast feed?

Oh I had this happen to me, with all three of my girls, but I chose to formula feed them, because i could not stand seen them cry. Of course there is always a family member that makes you feel like you are the worst mom, because you can not breast feed! And that is the worst feeling, but you got to do what you got to do, forget about what they say and go with your gut and what your dr recommends.
With my first one i try breast feeding for the first 3 mos, but she was not getting satisfied and i was getting fustrated. with my second i try the same, but after a month i went right to formula! and with the youngest i breats fed her for like 4 mos, but then i found out that insulin can actually does not help in the prduction of milk...which is not fun. I use similac advance for all three of them!
I dont belive that it is harmful or awful to not breast feed. Sometimes that makes the babies sick too! My sister had to stop breast feeding my niece, because her milk was making her sugar drop. Now she is on formula and she is fine. So, I guess go with your gut!!
Best of luck!

I was like a lot of moms here and also needed to use a nipple shield because of small nipples. I had one day where my lo didnt eat AT ALL because she couldnt latch on, it also took a while for my milk supply to build up so I supplemented with formula for a little while to take the stress out of constant feeding. I weaning her off the nipple sheilds around 5 weeks and I breastfed exclusively from about 1 month. The work was worth it. Now she's 6 months and takes nothing but bm, will be introducing solids in a few days :) do try to stick with it before you give up, the longer you do it the easier it gets :)
