This group is dedicated to giving OmniPod users a place to discuss and share our experiences so that we may grow and help each other "make diabetes a smaller part of our lives."
Please note: the exchange, sale or giveaway of items between members that require a prescription from a licensed practitioner, including insulin pumps and pump supplies, is not allowed on TuDiabetes.
We encourage you to donate supplies to non-profits such as the Charles Ray III Diabetes Association and Insulin for Life, which accept insulin pumps and pump supplies (as well as other diabetes-related prescription items).
You can also approach your physician's office or local medical groups to discuss donating them to those in need of assistance in your area.

Comment by BWashington on February 16, 2012 at 9:32am Putertech, I've been on the pod for almost 3 years and I've only had 2 "screaming pods", both times they were placed on the right side of my abdomen, almost the exact same spot. I'm sure there's something there that's causing occlusions. I've had one or two defective pods (the problems happened during priming) and Insulet replaced them right away. I'm a happy "podder"!
Comment by Putertech on February 16, 2012 at 9:24am Has anyone (besides Cherise) not experienced any alarms or a "screaming" pod? Reading about all these failures is making me nervous (I just started on the pods the first week of Jan). Also, has anyone had their pharmacist get the pods in instead of ordering them directly from insulet? With my Ping, my pharmacist was able to get my cartridges and insets in. They were then classified under prescriptions (not DME) and I didn't have to use up my deductible before insurance covered anything.
Comment by Cherise on February 15, 2012 at 3:45pm The only alarms I have had before is because I either hit it hard enough it knocked it off or my husband brushed against it at night and knocked it off. Other than that no other alarms. OmniPod even replaced the ones that just got knocked off like that with no problems. I've been on it since October 2011 and really liking it. My baby boy doesn't get tangled up in the tubing and my curious 6 year old can't play with the PDM because I keep it up from him.
Comment by barbraann on February 9, 2012 at 1:37pm Ive never had any issues with their follow up. If the pod failures were due to their failure not yours (which would include "in the box" alarming) they should replace them free. I've only had one occlusion in the 2 years of using. Sounds like a rare mistake of not placing the order. I've had that happen with other companies but never insulet. Never the less, it's very frustrating!
CN22, if your pods are failing in the box and not a result of a site failure or occlusion, Omni has been real good with me about replacing the bad pods. I had a rash of them a few months ago, but all bad pods were replaced. Since then, I have only had a couple of bad sites, nothing to do with pods. Good luck, Hank
Issues with Insulet...
Since I've had so many pod failures lately I was out of pods and contact insulet with my options. They are always extremely nice to speak with but don't follow up. The girl told me my shipment wasn't for a week but she would put in an authorization form to see if my insurance would approve the shipment early. I asked what the other options were since my shipment wasn't due out until the 11th and I was done to 1 or 2 pods (this was Thursday the 2nd), she said I could purchase them for $36 each. I agreed told her I would take some and gave her my cc info. She said she would put the order in first thing friday morning. I waited and didn’t receive anything Saturday then Monday came nothing then Tuesday NOTHING. I finally call because I figured something must be wrong... SHE NEVER PLACED THE ORDER! I understand people make mistakes and get busy but come on... I'm not ordering shoes this is seriously stuff that I need. this is the second time something like this has happened. This on top of all the pod failures is really making me rethink choosing the omnipod system.

Comment by Lorraine on February 9, 2012 at 7:29am For whatever strange reason, Caleb never ever gets occlusion alarms. Maybe because he's a kid and his dosing is small, it doesn't "clog" sufficiently to cause an Occlusion alarm. despite the fact that he does have cannulas that are bent or clogged and insulin is not getting through to the degree it should. I half wish it were more sensitive, but then don't want the pendulum to swing the other way and it over alarm either.
Comment by jla on February 9, 2012 at 7:01am RE Jennifer's question about having a pod occlude after 24 hours. In a word, yes. Sometimes they occlude because fatty tissue gets into the cannula. I've use 'Pod since Oct 2008 and find occlusions pretty random.
I was laying on the sofa and heard this loud terrible noise and I was like omg it is my pod. It said deactived pod. Does anyone have a occlusion after wearing for more than 24 hours?
Comment by jla on January 25, 2012 at 1:29pm Congratulations Newfer! I wish I could get mine lower. Just changed to Novolog from Apidra and am getting much better results so I'm hopful about next A1c
