This group is dedicated to giving OmniPod users a place to discuss and share our experiences so that we may grow and help each other "make diabetes a smaller part of our lives."
Please note: the exchange, sale or giveaway of items between members that require a prescription from a licensed practitioner, including insulin pumps and pump supplies, is not allowed on TuDiabetes.
We encourage you to donate supplies to non-profits such as the Charles Ray III Diabetes Association and Insulin for Life, which accept insulin pumps and pump supplies (as well as other diabetes-related prescription items).
You can also approach your physician's office or local medical groups to discuss donating them to those in need of assistance in your area.

Comment by Erik on May 24, 2012 at 1:51pm Oops... meant to type that Medicare considers them disposable, not DME.
Comment by Erik on May 24, 2012 at 1:47pm Interesting that Medicare considers pods DME. Anthem BlueCross BlueShield PPO considers them DME. Year one with them, they were covered 100% as syringes would be, then they switched to categorize them as DME. I guess they can call them whatever they want, as long as they help cover the cost.
Comment by Donald on May 24, 2012 at 12:31pm Medicare dose not cover the omnipod, that means any type of supplemental medicare ins will not cover the omnipod
Comment by Scott Wilkins on May 24, 2012 at 12:30pm dawn, Medicare will only cover "Durable Medical Equipment" in the case of insulin pumps. The Omnipod is disposable, not durable so that's where you are out of luck. Sorry.
Comment by Donald on May 24, 2012 at 12:28pm dawn - Who is 'Nancy?" You should be careful about your references to people you are dealing with when you are making a post....I know many Nancy's but none of them have anything to do with Omnipod or insurance! I would be certain (when you are speaking to reps fronm any insurance company) that they are CLEAR that this is not a 'standard" pump (most insurance will cover any typical "tubed" pump, at least to some degree...however the Omnipod is a little different and insurance companies can be a bit "fickle" (as We all know!)
Comment by dawn on May 23, 2012 at 10:46am I want to get on the Omnipod. I called them and asked them for the codes and then I called my insurance up. They said i'm covered. I just have to paid the 20%. So I filled out the paper work and mailed it in. Then Nancy said its not covered. I was fighting with her. Told her to call my insurance and to call me back and I'll be waiting for her call. She finally told me that they don't take my insurance. And that nobody will cover it with my insurance. I got Aetna Medicare with is a HMO. I won't got down. I'm going to get this pump. Any help????
Comment by Scott Wilkins on May 10, 2012 at 2:04pm Hey all! Just got my pods in the mail!! I'll be starting the Omnipods this weekend. Thanks to each and every one here in helping me learn and motivate me to get going on using an Insulin pump!

The FDA tweets approvals, if you want to be among the first to know when the next gen system gets the nod.
Comment by ahe05a on April 19, 2012 at 9:34am Juan's mom,
Our Insurance company did the same thing this year. (BCBS TX)However, we found a medical supply company here in-state that we are able to buy pods from. Maybe that would be an option for you as well.
