This group is dedicated to giving OmniPod users a place to discuss and share our experiences so that we may grow and help each other "make diabetes a smaller part of our lives."
Please note: the exchange, sale or giveaway of items between members that require a prescription from a licensed practitioner, including insulin pumps and pump supplies, is not allowed on TuDiabetes.
We encourage you to donate supplies to non-profits such as the Charles Ray III Diabetes Association and Insulin for Life, which accept insulin pumps and pump supplies (as well as other diabetes-related prescription items).
You can also approach your physician's office or local medical groups to discuss donating them to those in need of assistance in your area.

Comment by Gil DePaula on June 28, 2012 at 3:42pm Thank you for the explanation. I understand it now.
Again, the scenario I described does NOT involve saving and reusing a syringe/insulin 3 days later. I do not think that is a good idea.
Comment by HPNpilot on June 28, 2012 at 11:13am OK. I understand the scenario now. I've had a couple of pods that were hard to fill, but they worked anyway.
Personally, I would not be comfortable saving a used needle for use 3 days later. It would not be sterile anymore and I don't want it contaminating the reservoir of a new pod and the insulin that will be injected into my body.
If the insulin won't push in I believe the needle is bent. Prob ok to use needle from a new pod and save it for that pod later.
It's not that we reuse the syringes over and over. I think what Kati is saying is that sometimes when you fill a syringe with insulin and attempt to fill a pod, the insulin just won't go in. No amount of pressure on the syringe will allow you to inject the insulin into the pod. I've had this happen quite a few times. In these cases, I grab another pod and rather than toss the syringe full of insulin, I've tried to inject the same syringe into a new pod. Usually it works, but on occasion, it fails a second time. Again, I think Kati is thinking that this problem may be related to the syringe rather than the pod.
Comment by Gil DePaula on June 28, 2012 at 10:42am Why do you guys use the same syringe and needle over and over? Each pod comes with a brand-new sterile syringe and needle. I'm just trying to understand this (like HPNpilot). Thanks.
Yes...just make sure that if for whatever reason a pod does not activate and you need to use another, use the fresh syringe. I've puled the insulin out of the first pod, using the first syringe and tried to activate a second pod. I've suspected the syringe of being bent or too short or perhaps faulty in some way if a series of pods does not work.
Comment by HPNpilot on June 27, 2012 at 5:16pm I am not sure I understand this...each pod comes with a fresh syringe and needle.
I have suspected that before. I now try and make sure I use a different needle.
Comment by Kati * on June 27, 2012 at 4:46pm Regarding pods that won't fill, I had this occur tonight while changing my pod- went through 3 pods that wouldn't fill. Finally I changed the needle on the syringe I was using and one of the pods filled without a problem. This makes me think it isn't a problem with the pod??
