OmniPod Users

This group is dedicated to giving OmniPod users a place to discuss and share our experiences so that we may grow and help each other "make diabetes a smaller part of our lives."

Please note: the exchange, sale or giveaway of items between members that require a prescription from a licensed practitioner, including insulin pumps and pump supplies, is not allowed on TuDiabetes.

We encourage you to donate supplies to non-profits such as the Charles Ray III Diabetes Association and Insulin for Life, which accept insulin pumps and pump supplies (as well as other diabetes-related prescription items).

You can also approach your physician's office or local medical groups to discuss donating them to those in need of assistance in your area.

Hey All,

Does anyone know what is going on withlue cross Blue Shield of Michigan now only allowing you to receive shipments of what they call durable medical supplies (Omnipod) from the state that you reside in otherwise it it considered out of network, and is anyone from New York who knows of a supplier in network? Please help this is driving my numbers up and I only have 4 pods left since you can only reorder every 85 days.

Anyone here with General Motors BCBS?
Just picked up my freestyle test strips from Crittenton and was told they would not be selling Freestyle any longer. Can't get any information until Monday but I remember it was initially quite a problem trying to find a supplier. Just a bit worried.

Well, after nine months on the Pod I finally had a series of failures. In the past 48 hours I have had two fail. Same error code with the infamous high pitch tone. Totally inconvenient times for it to happen too!!

I will say, though, to Insulet's credit, that both times I called and they were so easy to deal with when explaining the issue. Once I went through a couple of basic questions, to include the error code, they were apologetic and promised me two replacement pods on my next order (no charge, of course).

I did question them about the new pod timeline. For those already on the old system, don't be surprised if it takes a while. The rep told me that they are still working on a deployment plan for existing customers and are only sending the new stuff to new customers. Makes sense, but I hate not having the newest toys!!

Went to visit my general dr's office and met w/ her colleague. She asked why don't u see an endo? I said because Dr. Said she could handle the responsibilities of an Endo. Then she asked, well, u should see an endo every 3-6 months. I said, Thank you. She will refer me to an endo now. My A1c is totally off but it's my fault- I don't check my blood sugar, sometimes for weeks. I 2nd guess all the time and think that because I exercise a lot, that's enough and I'm healthy. Wrong. I'm 38, no complications thank goodness, but I can't take advantage anymore, not when 40 and the rest of my life is around the corner. Bless us all until a cure soon.

I know I am on here alot asking questions. I have red marks come up around my pods. It hurts alittle but I can get past that. I do use ReliaMed Protective Barrier Wipes. It is because my stomach skin is sensitive? Do I need to which to a different one if so any suggestions?

I had to take my pod off...

No they'll make you take it off. It has metal in it. You'll need to cover the basal you miss somehow, or you'll be high when you get done (or shortly thereafter)...
The pod would be fine for x-rays or a CT as long as it's not in the primary beam...but an MRI uses magnets (no ionizing radiation), and anything that comes inside the room can potentially become deadly when the metal gets pulled into the bore.
Here's a slightly hokie video that GE made that we show to our students (I teach x-ray technology)...it does a good job of explaining how dangerous even "small" items can be.
