OmniPod Users

This group is dedicated to giving OmniPod users a place to discuss and share our experiences so that we may grow and help each other "make diabetes a smaller part of our lives."

Please note: the exchange, sale or giveaway of items between members that require a prescription from a licensed practitioner, including insulin pumps and pump supplies, is not allowed on TuDiabetes.

We encourage you to donate supplies to non-profits such as the Charles Ray III Diabetes Association and Insulin for Life, which accept insulin pumps and pump supplies (as well as other diabetes-related prescription items).

You can also approach your physician's office or local medical groups to discuss donating them to those in need of assistance in your area.

I think the point was that you are tied into reordering - and if you are paying yourself you may not want to reorder early, or you might need the option to go on MDI if finances are tight etc.

That's what I thought but didn't want to sound snippy with anyone.....

If Insulet doesn't charge for the defective pods (if they send out the new batch free of charge with the next order), then the price is actually the same isn't it? And you're still getting x amount of pods to cover y amount of time for the same price (again assuming the replacements do not cost). You just have to place a re-order sooner, but then that 'reorder' lasts longer because of the replacement pods that come with it...so a pod is still a pod is still a pod right?

Thanks for the info, I wasn't real sure how that worked. Thank God for my husband or I wouldn't have insurance! Not even sure how ours is working. I've been on Omnipod since March and haven't recieved any bill for anything yet. That's almost scary!! (Well we paid the intial fee the amt that insurance didn't cover.)

Hi Alesha,
Insulet will no longer replace defective pods unless you reorder another batch with them (ie. they'll only send out replacement pods when you reorder another box or so). For those of us who actually pay for the pods, rather than have insurance cover the cost, this is poor.

I've heard of the new replacement policy, however I've never had alot of problems with my Omni Pod system. The one time I had to call about a replacement pod, the replacement came within three days. I just have a question? How does the replacement pods coming with your normal order have anything to do with people who pay out of pocket? You shouldn't be getting charged for the replacements.....

TO ALL OMNIPOD USERS:
It appears Insulet Corporation has a new policy regarding replacement of defective pods.
They no longer will replace individual defective pods, but will add additional pod(s) to your next order, according to Customer Service. For those who pay out of pocket for their pods, this is a horrible decision that comes at a time when Omnipod alternatives are around the corner (ie. Medingo Solo micro pump and Medtronic's yet to be released patch pump). Despite the slow response in the past of replacing defective pumps (7-10 days), I always though of Insulet's replacement policy for defective pods was one positive attribute in a rather poorly structured customer service department. Now, I'm hoping the Solo pump flies and does well so I that those of us who pay out of pocket for our supplies and pumps can be treated as valued customers rather than with indifference as I have experienced with Insulet.

Just wanted to say that I was having MAJOR issues with my omnipod falling off. Usually after one day sometimes less. even after using i.v. prep wipes. If anyone else is having this issue I would strongly recommend using "Skin Tac" A liquid skin adhesive made by "Torbot Group inc." It works great. no more problems.

Just wondering if there are any Canadians who have managed to get an Omnipod? I'm interested to know how easy it was to get your Dr to give you a prescription for the Omnipod, if your insurance paid for it, if there were any problems with getting the Omnipod from a US supplier/Diabetic Education Centre.

Thanks.
