Hi jeje, i can only relate my sons experience here, type 1 for four years. he is typically only symptomatic with highs when he really high say over 300 for a while then the typical thirst, increased urination and stomach upset or general not feeling well. how old is your son some of his sx's could he hormonal or stress related. jacob is a bit prone to headaches but i tend to link them more to stress, not enough fluids or a low. obviously every child is different with all of this. i just realized he is just a few months in it sounds like you are both adjusting pretty well, this is such a great site for info and support, as you probably realize no one else gets the concern and so many variables with dealing with a child with D, we get you and are here for you. best wishes, amy

My guess would be these headaches and frequent jigs of not feeling well or being emotional are his age, complicated by some poor sleep patterns as opposed to symptoms from a small high. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something! Since oct he has been out with headaches more often and more grumpy. I think there are many factors. Thanks for your reassurance , Amy. We are doing better than I thought we would be doing at this point. The day after he was diagnosed I went home to spend the night with our other son, while my husband stayed at the hospital. I remember waking at 4:30 am to retreat to the other room, where my kiddo couldn't be woken from my sobbing. I called my mom in a later time zone and cried for an hour- thought we would never be able to leave him alone, go out again with out kids, and that I would need to be home at each meal for years. Thank goodness it has been gradually shifting from that around the clock vigilance to him being fairly independent. He even had a sleepover and texted me a pict of him drawn up last us to check! All that said, he have had hard moments and it has been a roller coaster, as you can imagine. Like when he started raging against his little brother- scary. I am just thankful he has come so far. We have a really amazing kaiser team, which really has helped. Thank you for your support. Jennifer

First, let me compliment you on being remarkably together for someone so recently diagnosed! My son is significantly younger (he's 3, diagnosed at 21 months) so he doesn't really tell us much. He definitely gets weepy at either extreme so behavior at least lets me know to check. Sometimes, he's just cranky! He definitely gets a tummy ache when he has ketones.
Does your son have a CGM? This may help you a little with pattern recognition.

3 is so little! And 3 can be a tough age to start with- we had easy 2's and much harder 3's. Although now that I think of it 12 has been a lot like 3, emotionally! My son gave himself his first shot and it was the same dance we did when he first used the potty.

He really wants a cgm, and we are looking into it and a pump in early march. He is pushing for it. Can you do a pump with a 3 year old? My dentist has a son who was diagnosed when very little, and they always though it was easier for them that their kiddo was so small. I guess I would vote for skipping it entirely for any age...
