Hi Everyone:
I am so glad I found this site. I have an 18 year old with type 1 diabetes who has been on an Animas insulin pump for two years now. Last August 2007 my then 5 year old daughter was diagnosed with type one as well. She has been on multiple daily injections untill now and we just received her new Animas 2020 pump (pink of course) and will be starting her on that. It is always a challenge to be a parent of a child with diabetes, but is is really nice to know that there are others who face the same obstacles as I do on a daily basis. Thanks to all for being here for each other!

My name is Kevin, I just found this site yesterday! What a blessing! Just what I've been looking for. I have a teen daughter who was diagnosed type 1, 8 years ago. She's been on the pump now for about 3 years but we've had lots of problems! She is not testing and adjusting how she should be and her numbers have been so bad the Doc. took her off the pump and back on the shots until things settle down. She does neot get the fact that because she feels OK she is doing damage to her body! Plus the fact that she started high school this year etc... If any parents have similar experiences i would live to hear about them.

Hi all,
I am a senior at Bates College conducting research on the psychological effects of a type 1 diagnosis on adolescents as a senior thesis study. I am looking for parents of type 1 adolescents (ages 11-17, diagnosed more than 1 year ago), as well as the adolescent to set aside some time to participate in my research project. There is a $25 raffle for those who are interested in participating. It consists of one questionnaire for the parent, and one for the child. The parent and child surveys both need to be completed in order to be counted, and one username needs to be created between the parent and child so that data can be linked. If I can't link the data, or if only the parent or only the child completes their part of the study, I have to drop those results. I know that this takes time, but I hope that you will help by participating and enter to win $25! I am happy to answer as many questions as I can pre-study, and will give details once the study is over in another couple of months is desired. I hope you decide to participate...it would be much appreciated!!! It takes parents who are touched by type 1 diabetes in order to advance this important (and unfortunately small) field of psychology!

If you are interested, there is one site for parents and one for adolescents:

parents, click here: http://abacus.bates.edu/~gleibach/diabetesparents

children, click here: http://abacus.bates.edu/~gleibach/diabeteschild

Thanks again!

I have a 21 month old boy with Type 1, It was revealed at his 15 month check up just weeks after he encountered a persistant virus that troubled him for about 2 weeks. I am looking for contact with other parents with simular circumstances.
