There is no single man in my village
Who does not limp
Who has
Five toes in his foot
There is no single man in my village
Who can see well
And on top of that
They all swim
In honey rivers

A diabetic child went comatose during the war; the mother put lots of honey in his mouth to realize that he is in DKA, smelling his breath.

The girl

Shoug is a little adopted girl,
puzzled by her surname
Her adopting Dad's name
does not match the name
they call her at school.

Shoug is puzzled
She is irritable
She hears things
She cannot understand.

She asked her adopting Mum,
Does father has two names?
Her adopting mother said yes,
And when
proudly the seven year old girl
told the whole school about
her dad's two names
The school teachers wickedly laughed.

Shoug had diabetes few months back,
she did not tell the school about it
She heard her mother
tell her father
behind closed doors,
My dear tell no body
or no body will ever
marry our dear little Shoug

So Shoug kept the secret
Because she loves like all little girls
to get married
one day

Shoug was admitted in DKA
The teacher,
would not
let her go to the bathroom
Shoug, who is diabetic
wet her self in the class room,
and she became
the outcast of the school.

Lying in bed
with her back to me
her sadness was too much for her,
her despair was bigger than her
My heart sank
Her depression was ahead of mine.
As an old woman
it is ok for me to feel depressed
But as a little 7 year old
It is killing to feel that way.

I gave Shoug a hug
I taught her how to face the world
I gave her my very cherished
Teddy bear

Shoug came yesterday to my clinic
with a beautiful present for me
A valentine red bottle of girlish perfume
I could not say no
I bought her another teddy bear
from the flower shop
And she gave me a hug

Street kid

She shuffled the streets
Begging
For our meals
Toes dropping
One per month
She taught me
How to count
One
Two
Three

One day I was in hospital myself
That thing
That killed
My mum

The kind lady will come in her car
Feed me her self
And then
Give me a shot
And
Go
Street kids will tease me
The old lady
Loves
You

She does not drive
She got that thing
That killed
My Mum

Today why she is late
I feel sick
I threw up
My friends are on top of me
I called my Mum
She is here
Walked all the way
To get me

I will walk with you
My child
For a mile
Or two
Walk
Till no more
For me
But more
For
You

I will watch you for hypo
You will watch me
Breathless and tired
Weight has to come down
Insulin resistance,
Metabolic syndrome
And all

To Robert without my reading glasses!!!

Whenever I sink
You pull me out
Of my very deep
Well
Whenever I am locked
Inside my self
You come and
Open
The door
For
Me

Whenever I turn my back
And say
No more
You come
And
Hug me
And say
Never mind about tomorrow
Let us
Live for
Today

Sun, moon,
Sea waves
Trees
Green
Fill with the colors of rainbow
Your soul
And if tomorrow
Will come
Your soul will remember
All the rainbow colors
My dear

(I left my reading glasses at home,
Arriving at my office
I remembered you my dear,
I cried because now I know.
Writing with no glasses,
All blurred for me.
Swear Robert on the top of your voice
Him of course,
But not me
He is not a relation by the way)

Hand in hand
I will never
Leave you
Alone,
You are
My life
Will be
My wife
Though Mum and Dad
Would not
Approve you
As my bride

Through good
Or bad
Hypo, hyper
Or whatever
Will be hidden
In pockets
Of fate
I will be here
By your side
Forever
My sweet...
Let us drop sweet
And say
My dear

My Auntie

She lost her only daughter
To cancer
In no time
My Auntie
Got diabetes
But as she bear the loss
Of her only child
She did not mind
Diabetes
It was nothing
For her

Tablets were given
Poor Auntie
Or poor village doctor
Did not check her blood glucose
Any more

One day while
Praying
At dawn
Hypo,
Killed
My Auntie
Who never
Uttered a complaint
She accepted whatever God
Had written
For her

It is not about diabetes, my dear!!

It is not about diabetes
My dear
It is about
You
And
Me
No boundaries
No borders
No barriers
Can come
Between me
And
You

Teach the crazy world
My friend

With love
Love
Is the cure

Can not take

Hidden in a womb
Refused to
