Recently I started a version of this diet - really The Diabetes Diet by Dr. Bernstein - and since eating this way for only one week I have been able to stop insulin completely!!!

I can't believe it!!!  My BG are MUCH more stable!!!  they are even lower than when I was on insulin and having to eat carbs several times a day to keep from going too low.

Also I have more energy!!!  I am so amazed!!!   For a few days I was having the 'low carb flu' type symptoms  LOL  should have been longer since I have been on a whole grain/sweet fruit diet like forever...  but today I woke up FULL of energy and just about leaped out of bed!!!  This was unheard of for me before.

I am so happy!  Before this my entire life revolved around my insulin.  I would have to eat ever 2 hours - and if I did exercise I would have to eat immediately after or before and after - and if it was very strenuous and prolonged (like hiking) i would have to eat while i was doing it.

Now a meal lasts me for at least 4 hours!!!!  And I don't eat again until I am hungry!!!

I actually think I must have a grain intolerance or something...  because I always felt weird when I would eat grains...    :D

DJH-

Lots of people feel "funny" when eating grains. I think we as a culture, have overdosed on some foods, and grains, potatoes, rice are a few of them.

I'm glad you've noticed positive changes, including increased energy.

I'm T2, and have noticed the same thing. Yesterday, I dipped my toe into the grain waters with breakfast, and felt sluggish ALL day.

Back to fresh, natural, and home cooked food!
i agree! grains always made me feel sluggish!
and i don't miss them right now since i had to eat them for so long...
now i have so much energy that i can't believe it!
i actually have exhausted my dog with all the dog walking LOL

fresh, natural, home cooked food ROCKS!!! :D

Djh, I just "discovered" this group (actually a forum member provided me with the link. There is so much info here, it's easy for me to get lost, lol).
Anyway, I just wanted to mention that I also have increased energy on the paleo diet. The only problem I have with it, is that I am getting a bit bored with my meals, and am looking for more "exciting" recipes. I quit taking metformin at least 2 monthsago and my numbers are better now than when I was following the ADA diet and taking metformin! (500 mg BID). This experience was humbling and "pie in my face", really. Prior to discovering my T2 DM,I too belonged to that group of health professionals who frowned every time they heard "protein diet". It works!.... Only wish I could bring my AM numbers below 100, though. However, when taking metformin and following the ADA diet, I would wake up with numbers between 135 and 150-something. Now they range between 112 and 126. A1C was 7.6 at diagnosis, my last one (around 5 months ago) was 6.3; I expect my next one will be better....it'd better be, lol
Thanks for sharing :-)
