Well for example this morning I went low shortly after 6, and this was the 3rd day. I changed it this morning so it definately wasn't the site :(. I do tend to run higher on the third day, thanks for the suggestion though, it would be funny and great if that was the problem. I have been usuing less insulin lately, and filling the res to 180u would mean my insulin would last 4 days. I switched to a low carb/dr bernstein diet for a bit to see if that is something that I can work with and don't have any problems during the day with lows just the mornings. And I just feel like food before bed wouldn't be the problem if I eat at 7 in the evening I souldn't still be having food related changes in bg at 4am especially if dinner only has 10 carbs.
Comment by BSP on October 18, 2012 at 2:24pm ladybell89--not wanting to point out something you may have already thought of, but could it be that you need to change your infusion sets more often? I know that I usually get high readings as I approach the end of day 3, so maybe putting less insulin in your reservoir--to force more frequent changes--may be something try if you haven't already.
sorry if this is a repeat post, but I've been trying to "fix" my night time readings for a few months. I've tried adjusting my nighttime basal a million times and I have gotten it to the point where most days of the week I have perfect or near perfect blood sugars, BUT there is a few nights a week, where for no reason I will crash in the wee hours of the morning. If i adjust the basal for 2 hours before the low, I wake up with a high (9-11mmol) most mornings of the week. Can't find a pattern with eating, "times of the month" or anything else. It's very unpredictable, and very irritating, and my doc seems to think that my A1c is awesome 6.4%, too awesome it could go up a bit, and says I should just deal with the highs in the morning to avoid lows. Obviously I disagree with both and want to get rid of this problem. 10pm 1.2u 12am 1.25 2am 0.9u 6am 1.7u. The lows strike between 4 and 6am, or not at all. HELP
Comment by Joan on May 5, 2012 at 4:39pm I get a large sharps container from the drug store (at no cost) and when it is full I return the full one and they give me another empty one. There is no cost for this service.
I would check with your larger pharmacies to see if they have this service.
Comment by Annabella on May 5, 2012 at 4:38pm Unfortunately sharps disposal depends on where you live. I have found that if you take a pair of pliers, grab the inset inserter needle & pull, it comes out quite easily, then the needle goes in the sharps container & the rest can be tossed. The reservoir needles just go straight in the container. Here in Oregon they give out the big sharps containers like you see in a doctor's office so it takes me over a year to fill one.
Comment by Gayle Kodimer Mckenna on May 5, 2012 at 3:10pm so i've been on the pump for almost a year, and i've yet to dispose of any of my used sharps supplies, i.e. the inset with the needle in it and the needle used to fill my reservoir with insulin. needless to say, i have quite a supply. the only sharps containers available free through the city are the little ones which would only fit about 5 insets! the sharps waste program listed through the city or the hospitals say they must be in special sharps containers to drop them off. i just have them in zip lock bags. suggestions???
