Hello everyone,

I was wondering if there are any insulin pump assistance programs available to mature adults.

Thank you for your feedback.

Hi Susan ,

A buddy of mine here in Canada received after a request went out about 9 months prior her replacement pump ...I googled S.U.G.A.R and and it appears there is an USA address available as well .The lady in charge had not been well ( volunteer position ) ; this may have been the reason why it took some time ???

http://www.docstoc.com/docs/5489338/Assistance-Programs-for-Diabete... Hope I copied OK ?? I will check back later ..need to prep for supper :)

Thank you so much. Yes, the link you provided works. I wish more insulin pump assistance programs would be available to mature diabetics.

Thank you once again,
Susan

Glad the link worked Susan ...hope the system works for you :) ..Canadian Diabetes Ass'n and Advocates were in Victoria, BC Canada this past week ( BC Government is situated here ) ; we presented the ASK to them and Opposition Party : to supply pumps...for more info http://www.diabetes.ca/get-involved/news/expansion-of-insulin-pump-...
We all left Victoria optimistic !
All the best to you and your challenge !!

Thank you very much for sharing the interesting article.

I am a graduate student in Gerontology and currently working on my thesis: examining the needs and concerns of older adults with type 1 diabetes on insulin pump therapy.

GREAT question!

I thought about it about 4 years ago and gave up on it. I am doing great on MDI the past 5 years, far better than the ole N + R routine.

Good for you!!!

I am on the 522 paradigm insulin pump and Dexcom CGMS.

on the site ( sp ??) ..it was fun chatten with you last night Susan ...then I had to go : Tea Time( and I am NOT British , ha, ha ) ...I did get your e-mail address in time ;)

Yes, it was very nice chatting. Unfortunately, my medtronic 522 paradigm pump-no longer works. Already been confirmed through tech. support. Right now, giving injections. I will get my loaner pump on Monday. Debating whether to continue with medtronic.

Susan ,how long did you have your 522 ? The reason I changed from 522 to the Veo , Feb 2011, was because I could not upload to Carelink ( confirmed by the Technical Team ) ; warrenty had run out , Extended Health ( Pacific Blue Cross ) covered the upgrade except for $ 600,00 ( or was it $ 400,00 ??), which we paid ...I have been a MM pumper since 2001 .I did trial the Omnipod and plan to stay with MM till who knows :)

I have had the 522 since 2005. Currently, I have a loaner pump-522. I started pump therapy in 2002. I just received a call from medtronic and in-process of getting a new pump-523 Revel.

How was the trial with the OmniPod System?? What were the pros and cons???
