Pumping Seniors

Seniors with diabetes wearing an insulin pump.

Please note: the exchange, sale or giveaway of items between members that require a prescription from a licensed practitioner, including insulin pumps and pump supplies, is not allowed on TuDiabetes.

We encourage you to donate supplies to non-profits such as the Charles Ray III Diabetes Association and Insulin for Life, which accept insulin pumps and pump supplies (as well as other diabetes-related prescription items).

You can also approach your physician's office or local medical groups to discuss donating them to those in need of assistance in your area.

Does anyone know who the person is in the picture at the top of the Pumping Seniors page? She looks very much like a woman who used to work at my local library.RuthContinue

I thought this might be a good place for a Medicare discussion regarding pumps. It may have been discussed previously but most of the information on this group is pretty dated, so I thought I'd start…Continue

I carb count and pretty much eat anything. I am not big on sweets anyway. I do my own printouts and my wife and I analyze the chart for the next pump setting or change. I have several complicating issues. I think I have gastroparesis. Sometimes there is a long delay in digestion. I spike after a meal well over 200 and straight down 3 to 4 hours later. I was recently diagnosed that I have ADHD. I compensated by being active in doing things constructive. Now that I have slowed down quite a bit but my mind did not. This causes too many thoughts swirling around my head causing me to be forgetful and trouble focusing. . I am not able to work because of diabetes. I am now taking Concerta to slow my head down and it is working. However, my appetite is very low around noon and starving at suppertime and at bedtime. My blood sugar is not very consistent. Overall trend seems not too bad. I dual wave bolus. Sorry about being long winded. Anyone with simular problem and taking medication? Thanks

Diabetic for 20 years and pumping for over a year. Minimed 722 and CGM. I live in central Illinois. No, that is not a picture of me. It is my son's dog. The breed is Bull Mastiff. Gentle and laid back. Good dog and well trained.

Hello All, Thanks for the invitation. I followed the link that Marie gave me. Why is it not located at the top under groups? It would make it easier for me to come back.

Good News! Friday, the VA approved my new minimed pump and I pick it up tomorrow at the VA hospital in Louisville. Training date not yet set. Can't wait to join the family for real!

Gardening, yes. Season is different than where I originally lived which was the Midwest and summer was the time there. Summer, I do not think is the time in Arizona, maybe someone has a different opinion on my comment. Have lived in Arizona about ten years and the heat sure beats the cold and snowy winters in Illinois.

Hi Carolyn;
I do the pump, sensor, and diet also. I am just not wonderful about diet since my earlier years with diabetes taught me to control the diabetes partly by not eating since my original Dr. told me I must keep my sugars as low as possible. My present Dr. doesn't like it but by now it is ingrained.
A personal question, can you garden in AZ? I'm just wondering about the very hot summers.
I'm chattering, sorry.
Glad to meet you.

Live in Casa Grande, AZ and treat my diabetes with insulin pump, sensor, and diet. I have been diabetic for 45 years and look forward to hearing from others.

Hi Y'all;
I'm 69 and live in Mobile AL. I've had diabetes for 44 years and have been on a Minimed pump for about 20 years. The development of new measuring aids has been so remarkable it is difficult to realize the distance we have traveled.
My exercise is gardening but I don't turn down my basal, I just wait to see if the sugar drops and then I shut the pump down while I work. It is wrong but it works for me.
