To be honest, i haven't found too many groups on this site very active. And I am as guilty as most. I am more active on another diabetes site - but it does not have :groups" - I'm just more active overall on that site.

Hi is this an active group. I am retired and facing the challenges of diabetes like everyone eles. Most of the post look like they are not very recent..so what's up?

The newsgroup that produced this document says that the low-carb diet they recommend is harder to follow at first than the low-fat diet many doctors recommend, but becomes more effective and easier to follow when it decreases your appetite after one to three months:

Hi Gordie, just saw your post regarding Medicare. I recently got a new pump through Medicare and have been receiving my supplies with old and new pump from Medicare. It seems like maybe when you can to look into other supplemental insurance and change to what is best for you. I have Blue Cross 65 security.

Gordie, its been a while since you posted your question about Medicare benefits for pump users. I have Medicare supplemented with a BC health plan. In MA its called Medicare HMO Blue. Under the plan I got my Animas 2020 pump with no out of pocket costs. I also get my Novolog insulin that is used in the pump at no cost. All the pump supplies, INSET infusion sets and insulin cartridges, for the pump are at no cost. Medicare also pays for the testing devices and supplies, which includes my meter,test strips, and lancets.

I think the plan is excellent and provides all that I need to manage my Type 1 diabetes. One more thing I get my insulin and testing supplies from a mail order pharmacy and the pump supplies from Animas. My Endo writes a script for what I need with 3 refills to cover a whole year. It works for me.

I've been in Tu Diabetes for a month or so, but I'm new to Retired Diabetics. I retired from the pastorate in 2005. I've been type 1 since I graduated from high school in 1957.

I'm having some issues with the Medicare pump, supplies, and insulin supplier. Are any of the rest of you using Medicare for your diabetes therapy?

Hi Florian, I think I'm quite fortunate in that I was introduced to a business opportunity which as it unexpectedly turns out has also helped with my bad health including T2 Diabetes. The supplements are working a treat for my high BS, cholesterol and blood pressure. These supplements provide everything the body needs to be sustained and all medical and scientific evidence is well documented. Two of the three supplements are liquids and the other is in powder form which is mixed with water. All taste delicious and well worth the few pounds I spend buying them each month. I am most definitely not on here to advertise the supplements however if you want to know the details that's no problem - just ask. I also appreciate that "health supplements" aren't to everyone's taste / belief and that's ok too.

Here's what I take:
• VITAMIN “E” (Softgel) 200 IU One tab a day
• OMEGA 3 FISH OIL 1000 MG One caplet a day
• “Glycosamine Complex” 500 MG One caplet a day
• Core Level Health Reserve One tab a day
• “Garlic Soft Gels” 1000 MG One tab a day
Also, I use these Spices on a daily basis:
• Tumeric in food*
*A spice that is anti-inflammatory
• Femmegreek* a 00 capsule once daily
*A spice that helps lower blood sugar
