One of the most difficult things I find to be a single diabetic is food intake.
There is nor one present to actually keep me from overeating, and when buying food at the supermarket I'm forced to buy too much as most products are family sized, or at least two person sized.

Lots of tupperware.
BTW I found this new plastic container that works very well for vegetables. It has an air hole in the lid, and there is a raised bottom so that water can collect at the bottom and not make it soggy. I eat a lot of lettuce and that container works great to keep lettuce fresh. When it takes 4 days to get through a head of lettuce, having this container definitely helps.

I find that as a single person, the only way I can go through a container of strawberries before it becomes white fuzz is to freeze them.

My strategy in keeping my weight down is to eat TONS of vegetables. Have lunch as your biggest meal of the day and keep dinner to vegetables and some low cholesterol meat item ( chicken breast or egg whites).

Another strategy is to simply accept the fact that you will have 2 of the same meals in a row. Most food is packaged in a 2 portion container, so I simply divide it in half, tupperware it, and eat the same meal twice.
I'm curious if any other single Diabetetics (Type 1 or Type2) also worry about living alone, in the event of a low blood sugar in middle of night (or any other time for that matter), where you didn' wake up or passed out, and noone would be there to know, let alone call 911?
You are correct that the portion sizes here in the states are too large...the bigger problem is that no one here seems to have any self control when it comes to eating. I've been a diabetic since childhood, so to think that someone could become T2 purely because they're too fat is almost obscene. It's pathetic.
