I recently started seeing a gentlemen who happens to be quite the health buff. Doubt this one has ever had a day worrying about the carbs he eats. I think for the first time I am attracted to him for that reason. Hmmmm.....
Either way, I have seen many online PWDs bring up the dating questions, the partner questions, even the sex questions.
I told him right away I was diabetic. For me personally it is important that someone know this. If you want to "take a chance to get to know me", well, know what you're getting into. I totally agree with the "burden" feeling. It is hard but it should not be. We PWDs or those with a chronic illness do not judge others, why should they judge us?
It takes work in a relationship. Any PWD works hard everyday to maintain their life. Most people do not have to consider the things we do day in and day out. How could we possibly fit into "their world"? Interesting because we do not ask that of them now do we? I simply ask, be open-minded enough to not question me. Ask questions, yes. But do not ever think you have the answer or know the way. Even my doctor doesn't.
Give us a chance. We have SO much to offer! We have learned SO much since we were diagnosed. We are who we are. Let it be, just be.
