What's the best advice that you would give a young person that's just been diagnosed with diabetes?

I would say don't let diabetes stop you doing anything! There are just a few things you can't do (military jobs, commercial driving...) but there's so much more you CAN do!

Permalink Reply by CarpeDiem on July 11, 2012 at 5:29pm Well I was diagnosed when I was 3 and I'm 18 now. It's been a long road and I've made many mistakes, but the biggest piece of advice actually came from my doctor to my parents when I was diagnosed. He told me to NEVER let diabetes hold me back from anything and to let me have a normal life. Now obviously you can't just ignore having this disease but I'm a competitive athlete, I've traveled my myself...all with diabetes! Stay in control, but don't let diabetes control you!
