She may be a good high risk doctor, but don't trust her with diabetes. Before I got pregnant, I was a healthy person. During my last trimester I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes and told to go to her. Looking back on what they "taught" me about diabetes, it was pretty bad. I went on insulin immediately, for about six weeks and luckily delivered a healthy baby girl. Well, she never ordered me to have any blood tests after i gave birth, and even after much insisting I never had my sugars tested once. They even discharged me when I told them I felt awful...keep telling me it was because of my hard delivery. Bam, four days later I was in the ER with numbers around 700 and am now a Type 1. She may not have given me type 1, but she has no knowledge of diabetes outside of gestational diabetes. And her "diabetes educator" was a moron (looking back). Since you are already a type 1 and know all about the disease, maybe you'd be ok and teach her a thing or two! Good luck!

Whatever you do, don't got to Dr. McFarland at the North Central Baptist Hospital. I'm pretty sure I'm a type 1 diabetic because of her ignorance about diabetes. I wish I had a great one to refer you to, but all I know is who to avoid! Hope that helps. Good luck to you!
Comment by Ashley on May 22, 2012 at 2:50pm Hello! I'm actually in Laredo (couple hours sound of SA). Do any of you have (or know of) any excellent high-risk OB docs there? I had a couple from my endo but wanted to hear if anyone else had any recommendations. Hoping to get pregnant soon and deliver in SA :)
Thank you!
~Ashley
