Has anyone tried the newer medication for Type 2 which do not cause weight gain ? My Dr wants me to start on Novolin & I read it causes weight gain. Any thoughts ?

Permalink Reply by David (dns) on February 8, 2013 at 9:43am Weight gain on insulin can certainly happen, and does for some people, but it is not automatic. I actually lost weight after starting insulin, because I adjusted my diet accordingly. Insulin brings you closer to the way your body is designed to work, i.e., eat more = gain more. So it's back to the old basic formula -- to gain weight, eat more and exercise less. To lose, do the opposite.

Not sure what you are already on but assuming you already or on metformin you could ask for Victoza? It's an injection but not insulin. Most people will loose a few pounds too.
