Hi

Having been using Humulin I(night) / Humalog, I am now trialling Humalog before bed and before breakfast. I wanted something with a longer tail through the day. It seems to be working well in for numbers, BUT I am getting dizzy spells. Is this related to the Levemir or something else.

All thoughts welcome.

PS I forgot to add I am on a Levemir AND Humalog at the mo.
Why are toy taking Humalog before bed? Humalog is a rapid acting insulin, surley you should be taking the Levemir twice a day and the Humalog with every meal?
I beg your pardon - i was dizzy when i wrote it!

I am on Levemir before bed and before breakfast and Humalog before other meals - sorry!

When are you getting dizzy? is it straight after or an hour or so? When you first start Levemir it can cause some dizzyness which should go in about a month, but its quite rare!

What are your BG numbers when you go dizzy?
Its about an hour after injection. I assume I only notice it in the day - I may well be dizzy when asleep as well. It is not everytime but I am reasonably sure there is a connection.

Numbers are between 5-8 when dizzy. It does pass after a while and does not seem to be related to physical activity it happens walking or sitting.

Maybe I'll stick it out for a while and see how it goes if you say it passes.

Thanks
Ari
Give it a month, if your worried contact your GP

just a question, how comes your on Levemir and not Lantus?
I really don't know. Never tried Lantus.

When discussing with the (junior) specialist at the Diabetic Clinic in my local hospital I asked for a regime that would:

1) Stay with Humalog as it seems to work well for me for main meals
2) Have a longer tail or more 'background' insulin in my system over the day. The reason being that as my evening meal time varies due to having work / children to put to bed etc - I wanted some background insulin in my system in the evening. She suggested Levemir.

[My background: I am 39 LADA diagnosed 4 years ago. I am at the end of a honeymoon period when I needed small doses of insulin and my numbers are harder to predict at the moment and I need more insulin - I am pretty sure the dizziness in NOT hypo related]

Thanks
Ari
I can understand that! I was diagnosed only a year ago, without a type, lol they couldnt work it out, but I was using Lantus and humalog before starting to pump.

Lantus I would split my dose in 2, so it would give me full cover! the long tail, as it did not work 24 hours as they said, I was on 32 units of that split, I like Humalog too, as it gives me 3-4 hours usage, tried Apidra which leaves your system FAST! but was kinda lucky as was allergic to that, lol so couldnt continue its use
