Hi everyone!

Just wondered if anyone out there is aware of any way that I can meet up with other Type 1's in the UK?

If you read diabetes blogs based in the US, you'll know they just went to a JDRF Government Day, where they were able to share their stories with health professionals and government members, as well as meet up with other diabetics.

I thought it was brilliant, it made me want to book a ticket to the US for next year! But, I figured I should probably see if there was anything like this in the UK already?

The other thing is, that if there wasn't, there might be a way of organising something if other people are interested?!

Thanks for your help!

Hi
There's nothing that i know of ' think it's just a case of planning our own meeting's.
That's our only option i would say'.
Not that this is exactly what you are looking for but ...

but the below is more of what you are probably looking for....

http://www.childrenwithdiabetes.com/activities/UK2011/

and although it says Children with diabetes the following is on the main website about the conference....

Who Should Attend the 2011 Event?

* Families and individuals with type 1 diabetes
* Young adults, teens, school-age children, and younger children
* Grandparents
* Children with type 1 diabetes and their siblings and their best friends
* Their parents
* Adults with type 1 diabetes and their spouses or partners

I haven't been and don't know much about it but it sounds kind of what you are looking for.
Hi Alissa, there is a great soclial organisation called Circle D here in the UK which has various 'branches' up and down the country. It's for Type 1s aged 18-30. http://www.circledrocks.co.uk/

Also, our UK forum http://www.diabetessupport.co.uk/boards/index.php has regular meets up and down the country too - there are meets planned in London, Taunton, York, Brighton, Glasgow and Birmingham.
Hello Alan,
I'm disappointed that CircleD is exclusively for Type 1's aged 18 - 30, is there anything for more ancient Type 1's?
Catherine
Hi Catherine, yes - the forum I mentioned has lots of meets, for ALL ages! I'm 52, diagnosed Type 1 at age 49! You'd be very welcome to come along! http://www.diabetessupport.co.uk/boards/index.php .

I'm known as Northerner on the forum :)
thanks so much for these links! very helpful indeed :)
