I'm looking for an Endo in the Troy/Rochester/Sterling Heights area. I have this long list and have no idea how to even start narrowing it down. I recently move here and my PCP isn't much help in my search. I'm trying for my second pregnancy and need someone who doesn't have a God complex and does a good job working with patients who are accustomed to self management. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Nancy

Hi Nancy, We have been to just about every doctor in this area and are now happy to have found and made and appointment with Dr. Berris after someone recommended her on another forum. I took both my son and daughter to Dr. K and would never go there again. That place is run like an assembly line and his treatment plan was different based on my daughters disability, which made me furious. We have had good luck with the female doctor at the Michigan Endo group, but the office is a pita. They left us in a room once forgetting about us, and one other time told me when I walked in that I had canceled the appointment when they called to confirm. Of course I hadn't done that, and then had to wait for them to squeeze her in. I believe the doctor should have been treating my daughter's Hashimoto's much sooner than she did, and she refused to consider putting her on dessicated thyroid meds. We took her to an endo in Grand Blanc after finding out that she was pro dessicated thyroid meds. I was willing to make the drive in order to get the meds, but that office is THE worst. They don't even answer the phone, EVER! You have to leave a message, and they decide when and whether or not to return your call. Dr. Berris has just returned from maternity leave herself. Once you choose a doctor at most practices, you cannot change within that practice, so that can be a problem with large groups.
The person that recommended Dr. Berris has a friend that has been seeing her for years. After putting her on insulin, she called her at home to see how she was doing. That was all that I needed to hear!
Thanks all. I've made an appointment with Dr. Berris and am looking forward to it.
Hi Nancy.

Don't know if you are on a pump, but I'd suggest asking the reps. I th ink they have a good handle on which docs are cooperative, or more specificially, which are NOT.

My daughter was just dx about 6 weeks ago, so we are not very familiar with the whole endo scene yet, and we are only familiar with the pediatric endos.

I had to chuckle about the "God complex". :-)

We live in Rochester Hills.

Welcome to MI... I'm sure you got a good deal on a house! :-)

==> Mike.
I have an appointment set for next month so we'll see what happens. My PCP put me on my pump, I did up all my paperwork and just asked her to sign them. I've been diabetic longer than she's been in practice so the only thing she could say to me was "Okay!"....lol. I had an awesome pump trainer that took care of everything that my PCP needed to sign and me and her worked out the rest. I'm trying to get the Dexcom right now but her staff hasn't been on the ball with faxing the info my insurance company wants.

Tell your daughter that I've very sorry that she's been diagnosed and I know what a huge bomb it is to have dropped in your lap. It's a huge adjustment to make but it does get easier with time. With the right knowledge, attitude and persistence it shouldn't stop you from having an adventurous life. It hasn't for me.

We haven't bought a house yet....my hubby hasn't convinced me although he's trying...lol. I've been a nomad all my life and the idea of being in the same place and held there by a mortgage....YIKES.

Cheers,
Nancy
We are waiting till next month to get Dr Berris to write the script for the Dexcom sensors. I can't see asking the PCP to do it when she knows nothing about it, and the last endo that I took her to never did call me back when I asked for the script the second time. Good thing that we can make the Dexcom sensors last for 2 weeks each!
I apparently was "direct" enough to get my PCP to fax the final info to Dexcom today, I'm suppose to have my shipment by Friday....yipppeeee!!!!
Nancy, you are going to love it. I will see you over on the Dex board!
Awesome!!
Hi Nancy! I don't really have a recommendation for a doctor. My husband works for the St. John's health system, so I go to their Joslin Diabetes center. The nurse practitioner there is adequate. I just wanted to say hi to you since we live close to each other. I have been living in Birmingham for about 1 1/2 years. Do you know of any diabetic support groups in the area? I am very glad I found this website, since I've felt very isolated for awhile.

Hope you have good luck finding a good Dr. I also hate Dr.'s with God complexes!!

Jenny
Hi again!
We have meet ups every few months at a Starbucks around Troy. Thinking about April. Usually Sunday around 1pm. Would that work? Just sent you a message so sorry if this is a repeat!
Thanks. I really want to deal with an Endo that can help me out. I'm use to making my own adjustments but every once in a while I have weird things happen that I need an explanation for.
