I would highly recommend Dr. Mary Gallagher at Naomi Berrie Diabetes Center (it is a part of Columbia Medical Center). NB has a whole team to treat Type 1, including Nurse CDE, Nutritionist, eye doctor, social worker, etc. Dr. Gallagher is actively engaged in diabetes research as well. She has a good bedside manner with children and will support parents in choice of treatment. Very important to us, she knows how to write scripts to override the insurance company's restrictions on test strips. Also will write thorough doctor's orders and letters of medical necessity to institute proper 504 when your child is in school.
