I notice that most of the people in this group -- at least, judging by the posts -- are from the Portland area or points further north. Which is great . . . but Portland is an hour and a quarter from me, and I'm not retired. Yet. Are there any folks in this group from the Mid Valley who might want to get together, or form a separate group, or . . . whatever???

David--TuD's search function is not perfect, but if you go to the members page and type in some city names one at a time, you'll find neighbors. I just tested it for Eugene and Salem for starters and there were many you could befriend and get to know. You can also just try Oregon and sort through them.

From my experience, it is worth the effort. Meet-ups are always rewarding---full of shared experience and laughter and comfort. We've had several here, from a potluck picnic to little bistro gatherings---and it matters not T1, T2, meds, no meds, etc. The sense off community is empowering.

And it is worth noting that distance is only a barrier for a time. Last year I had 2 fantastic meetups in Minneapolis and Wisconsin---I was back there visiting relatives and contacted TuD friends before the trip and we made it happen!

Good luck and let me know when you are making a trip to Portland!.....Judith

yes, start a meetup.com group! I'd totally go! I live in Eugene and know 2 other T1s. I go to the JDRF monthly supper in Portland, and the founders suggested I start a group down here. I know the Animas pump rep would totally let her clients know about a group if there was one.

Annie,

I didn't even know there was such a thing as meetup.com. Cool! I'll sign up and get a group set up. I'll post back here when it's up.

David

yes, they are pretty awesome! I am part of a hiking and camping group :-) It has been a lot of fun!

Annie--I haven't forgotten our "almost meetup". It's been a difficult time and I'm not "out and about" a lot right now. But I hope you will keep me in mind whenever you get up this way. Brava for making meetups happen wherever you are!!!...Judith

LOL! Definitely! My latest D-project is working with a trainer to train a Diabetes Alert Dog! My puppy comes home June 30th. She or he has been exposed to the low scent since they were born. So excited!! So us 3 will have to meet (that is, unless you have dog allergies/not a dog person)!

I will be driving up to Portland area every week in July, on either Fridays or Saturdays, to meet with the trainer. So perhaps we could meet one of those times!

Oh Annie. I would be delighted! I met with Portland's Blind Chef and his alert puppy once. I just think it's a fantabulous way of relations between the species. Let me know what part of town you need to be in. I mostly use MAX and buses, but they get me all around. And by July, a little outing should be doable!

Judith,

Thanx for the feedback and the suggestions. We do occasionally (very occasionally) get up to Portland for a dinner, a Symphony concert at the Schnitz, or to visit friends (my wife's oldest friend lives in Lake O). I'll let you know the next time we are heading that way.

Thanks again for the ideas!

Best,

David
