I've had a cold/uri of some kind for the last three days. This morning my fasting bg is over 200!! It's hot here and I've been drinking lots of fluids. Could it just be that I'm feeling lousy? I hate to go to the doctor. I'm caregiver for my elderly parents and they have appointments all this week. I haven't had much time to rest really. Any advice would be helpful.

The combination of stress and illness and heat will definitely raise your #s. I don't know your type or regimen, so it's difficult to give advise. How long the highs last is important. Exercise can help bring them down. Remember that lifting your parents out of chairs and changing their clothes or doing their laundry is also exercise.

There are a lot of things to ease cold symptoms. And I can recommend things for longer term support of your immune system. I'm sure you know about cranberry for utis. Cranberry juice gives me a spike, so I take cranberry supplements everday.

What is your fasting # in better times?.......Wishing you the best......Judith in Portland
