TuDiabetes - A Community for People Touched by Diabetes

So I need to get my lifestyle in order with EVERYTHING, right? I'm ready to accept my disease and choke it till I suffocate it to death, or until there's some cure that comes around in my lifetime...

I've already had some help in looking for some state funded things, but I'm pretty sure they aren't going to pan out because I don't meet the requirements. I was wondering if there's anyone in my state of Florida (or anywhere else, really) that is stuck in this position of not being able to get what you need to LIVE, or know any way to sort of beat the system. I can't pay $200 to go see a specialist just to have them tell me something I already know....and then I can't afford to pay for drugs out of pocket every month either, and still pay rent....it's damn frustrating ya'll. AND with the economy like it is, I'm afraid to even look for a real job, because there's no way I can be in limbo right now...blah blah blah....venting....

I just don't think I know where to begin looking. Maybe I'm not thinking of this the right way or something.

Any and all comments welcome by anyone---especially those in the same boat, or who have been in the same leaky boat at some point. Thanks guys.

Life gets very hard for some of us but by the grace of God we seem to get by. Try going to your local Health dept or getting in touch with someone involved Diabetes Education at your local hospital. They often can help you toward the help you need. I will keep you in my prayers~Sande

Travis, you can also check out www.isletsofhope.com. They have lists of government and private agencies that can help. The lists are divided by states. Good luck and God Bless.

I hate that the state of Florida allows this to happen. Recently, Governor Crist put the "Cover Florida" program into effect. I'm not sure how it would work with you and your situation, but it may be worth checking out: http://www.coverfloridahealthcare.com/

From the site "Cover Florida allows insurers to create innovative health insurance products that are affordable and guaranteed to Floridians who have been without insurance for at least six months, or who are recently unemployed – even if there are pre-existing health conditions. The coverage is voluntary for both individuals and for employers, and employees can even take their coverage with them if they change jobs"

Then there is also this: http://www.healthyflorida.com/diabetes_help.html which mentions a plans for self employed individuals. I don't know the specifics of your business, but it may be worth checking out.

Hope this helps!
