TuDiabetes - A Community for People Touched by Diabetes

is it just me? over a period of one week
I went from needing drug store reading glasses
to full- fledge coke bottles just to walk down
the hall. Eye doc said ...yep your bods adjusting
to being on meds.... this is how your vision is
going to be... so it was off to order new spec's.
Two weeks later, vision back to just needing dime-store
reading glasses...

Is this what I can expect?
before meds. bs in the 300's
after being on meds for 2 1/2 months
bs fasting 90's
has been as low as 78
after eating around 130

Hi Tracy and welcome to this site. Its not just you .Fluctuating blood sugars effect your vision. I have experienced the same issue as I am nearsighted and my vision has changed back and forth.Perhaps now that you are more controlled with the meds your vision will stay more at one level.:) paula

I would supposed that you are a recently diagnosed diabetic, Tracy. And you haven't had a hemoglobin test yet? The A1c is taken every two-three months to determine the average blood glucose level. Medication will definitely alter BG especially if stopping a prescription suddenly. I know, I got diagnosed with diabetes when I stopped a statin drug suddenly without telling my doctor at that time. She said I was a "full-blown" diabetic. No explanation other than to shove me on a medication "metformin".

The more stable you keep you BS the more stable your vision. But different meds, high BS, BPO changes, sickness etc cause your vision to fluxuate. Keep your drug store specs handy and your RX specks close by. Everything and anything can throw you off so just stay prepared~Sometimes neither pair are clear~hang in there~Sande

I had this problem back in the beginning of my diagnosis period as well. My doctor explained to me that when your sugars are high, it thickens the blood enough so that it puts pressure on the optic nerve causing blurriness or changes in vision. When regulated to normal levels then the eyesight will come back to what it was before. I went rushing to the eye doctor because I couldn't see clearly up close (something I need for my work) but my GP said not to because a new prescription wont help once I regulate my blood sugars. Now it's some years later and I think that its just old age making my eyes worse hahahaha
