Glad I finally found this group. I live in Coolidge, AZ, which is about midway between Phoenix and Tucson. Diagnosed T2 in August 2008. On Byette (5mcg) and Metformin (500mg twice a day as I cant handle more than that). Haven't seen an endo as there isn't one in my area, but have considered looking in Maricopa Co. for one. We do have a Diabetes Educator who works for Pinal County and does a class once a month for people in Florence (where I work). I do know her on a personal basis as we are both members of the Pinal County Employee Wellness Coalition. Problem is classes were offered at a location that I couldn't get to once I had to give up my car to my son for school in Tucson (due to husband losing job we cant afford to buy him one and it was too late to apply for a dorm). Anyway, classes are now being held at a new location within walking distance of my office, problem is I am the county adoptions clerk and have appointments every Thursday, a lot of times at 10:00 and schedule 3-4 months out. So I finally looked at my calendar and blocked off Thursday mornings through the end of the year so it looks like in about June I will be able to start attending classes again.

Glad to be a part of Tu and now a member of the SW group!!!!

Hello, Jerry! I will definitely be at the Tour de cure. My first! And thank you for the warm welcome...

Hi, Devon,
March 7 is the Tucson Tour de Cure. I will be down in Tucson that weekend. Of course, I only live about 90 minutes away anyway, in Chandler. I'd be happy to meet you.
Sorry for your diagnosis, but welcome to TuDiabetes and the diabetes community!

Hello! I am a new member to TuDiabetes- and well a new "member" of Type 1 Diabetes as well (just diagnosed on Jan 23, 2010 at the age of 31) I live in Tucson and would love some fellow SW diabetic friends! Take care...

Hi, Brigitte,
If your friend is annoyed by your attempts to help, you might suggest that he find a community like this one, full of people who know what it's like to have diabetes. There are several online communities, and the ADA has a list of support groups that meet in person locally.
If he doesn't want help, then there's nothing anyone else can do about it.

Its tough Brigitte. Your heart is in the right place, but like with a lot of things, people won't change until they have to. I think its sad, but us humans seem to be wired to learn more from failure than from success. If you need someone to listen, post or email!

There's something for everyone at this year's Triabetes Ironman Weekend. Be one of more than 200 spectators for the greatest show in diabetes in 2009.

Meet the team that is bringing the world-class individual back to the world-class athlete.

Come celebrate the close of our second year with a special World Premiere of the Triabetes Documentary. Stay to support the team as they triumph together at Ironman Arizona.

Saturday, November 21, 9:45 AM
Andiamo Production, winner of 13 Emmy Awards, will show its Triabetes Documentary for the first time in High Definition at the Valley Art Theatre in Tempe, Arizona. Experience the magnitude of Ironman training first-hand, from the perspectives of people living with diabetes. Get your tickets today and receive a complimentary lunch at the Triabetes Awards Reception, courtesy of Insulindependence.

You don't have to be an Ironman to inspire to millions. For the 2009 Triabuddies, you don't even have to be a teenager! Join us at the documentary showing and meet this year's Triabuddies--14 type 1 kids from across North America, who will be joining their Triabetes mentors after a group sailing expedition off the coast of Santa Barbara.

Reserve your ticket to the documentary showing and be there to meet these individuals and more as they're honored with their teammates at the 2009 Triabetes Awards Reception. Complimentary lunch will be provided by Insulindependence at the Gordon Biersch Brewery in Tempe.
