TuDiabetes - A Community for People Touched by Diabetes

Here's an email I sent out to some friends. If you can help out please contact Doug Dressman at dougdressman@diabetes-exercise.org.

I'm not sure if you are familiar with DESA but they are a great organization that has spearheaded understanding diabetes and exercise. I won't be able to make it Sunday but I thought I would pass this along in case you or anyone you know may be able to help out.

First, let me acknowledge that this is a very last minute request. You may have previously seen this request and may not be able to help out. My apologies if this is a repeat message to you.

DESA has organized a 5K Run at the ADA Sci-Session for the past 10 years or so. ADA has taken over most aspects of the run this year as they have made some changes as to how they work with their sponsors at their meeting. DESA recruited Novo-Nordisk to be the 5K Run sponsor several years ago.

That is a very short history to a very complicated set of circumstances. ADA has offered DESA several opportunities to remain visible at the 5K Run. One of those opportunities is to provide volunteers to staff various components of the event. I received this request early last week and have been able to recruit 6 volunteers as of today. This is where I need your help.

The Novo-Nordisk 5K@ADA is scheduled for early morning on Sunday, June 8. Here is the request that I received:

· Number of volunteers needed: 6-8 more (12-14 total needed)
· We will need volunteers mainly for the following three sections:
o Water/food at start area
o Water station on course
o Finish chute

* Volunteers to arrive on-site at the Justin Herman Plaza at 5:30am. Justin Herman Plaza is located at the foot of Market Street at the Embarcadero, just behind the Hyatt Regency Hotel. It is just across the street from the Ferry Building.
* Volunteering ends at 7:30am

THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT ACTIVITY FOR DESA. If you can be of any help at all as a volunteer and/or in recruiting volunteers for Sunday morning, we will be most appreciative. Paula Harper and I will be at the 5K@ADA as DESA volunteers. It is possible that other DESA Board Members may also be participating Sunday morning as DESA volunteers. DESA members, friends, family members, anyone is welcome to help out. I will provide a DESA t-shirt to each volunteer on Sunday morning.

I will need the email address and a cell phone number for each volunteer so that the run organizer (Tracs) can communicate with them prior to and on Sunday morning.

Let me know if/how you can help us out with this.

Doug
