I'm relatively new to the Charlottesville area but have been seeing Dr. Zitnay for about a year. But now he is leaving and moving to New Jersey. Which really stinks because he's definitely the best endo I've ever had. So I need a new endocrinologist. Any suggestions??

Roanoke (1 - 2 hours away) has a practice Endocrinology Associates (540.344.3276) with multiple endos. I see Dr. Michael Koch and am pleased with him. They also have two or three other endos as well.
Although I hate to say this, Charlottesville seems to have a specific deficiency in endos. If you are willing to travel to Richmond (1 hr) you can choose from a dozen or more. Sorry.
Hi Colleen,
There is another Endo who is also a Type 1 in c'ville. Her name is Susan Kirk. I called her and she is taking new patients, but only if they are planning on getting pregnant or are currently pregnant. If this is your situation then it might be a good fit. She also familiar with inuslin pumps.

I am still looking. I will post back if I find anyone else.

I suppose another good place to turn to is to just call the University of Virginia medical school endo division (http://www.healthsystem.virginia.edu/Internet/endocrine/). I am sure they would know everybody in the region.
I see Dr McCartney at UVA. Eugene Barrett also comes recommended from people I've spoken with. The downside to a teaching hospital is the layers of physicians you'll see. I've had 2 different endo fellows since my diagnosis (2 years ago). Both have been great, but it was a little frustrating at first. Also, they have a diabetes education program that is very good.
Hey Colleen, I'm new to tudiabetes and hope you have already gotten an answer to this but if you come over the mountain to Waynesboro we have two endos. Dr. Nelly Maybee and Dr. Angela Sutton. Both at Augusta Diabetes/Endocrinology, 70 Medical Center Circle, Fishersville, VA, 22939. I to to Dr. Maybee and she is excellent. The endo I used to go to retired recently so I have been going to Dr. Maybee for less than a year.

Sorry I'm late but thought I would put in my 2 cents.
