TuDiabetes - A Community for People Touched by Diabetes

A few days ago , Mr Philip, one of the mayors of my city, said Ok to light in blue, one floor of his city hall. There are 9 city halls in Lyon. It will be the first time ! And there will be a conference about type 2 !!
I'm with this event as the ambassador of TuDiabetes for France and I hope to find some new members but the language is an important frontier! I really hope it will be a great first day here!
So what will happen in your towns? I think we can start a discussion about our experiences. What do you think about that?

I have written Mayor Villaraigosa, the mayor of Los Angeles, this e-mail:
Dear Mayor Villaraigosa:
For the first time in Lyon, France the city hall will light one floor of their building in blue to honor World Diabetes Day on November 14, 2009. As a type 1 diabetic for over 30 years, nearly my whole life, and a resident of Los Angeles County since I have been almost 5 years old, I am wondering what are we doing for this very important day? Blue is our color for this day. If nothing has been planned, please plan something to show awareness of Los Angeles' large diabetic community.
Sincerely,
Sarah Keech

Very well, Sarah. It's only one of the city hall . It's my first step for this day. And if I was not a member of our great community, TuDiabetes, I never knew this day!!!! Some others French cities light in blue some building too. I hope the mayor of Los Angeles will listen to you, it's such a big city. Have a great day!

I hope Mayor Villaraigosa listens to me also. Our city is over 50% hispanic and diabetes has hit the hispanic population more so than most other ethnicities. Maybe our city is doing something and I simply cannot find it on the city's website. I hope so.

I checked the list and Los Angeles did not participate last year! In CA, only San Jose and San Fransisco did. Hope that the major listens!

thank you Kristin! it's a very little thing but I really think it's important. Now, with the help of Mr Philip, my mayor of my "arrondissement", we must find a doctor for the conférence. The conférence will be on Friday the 13 of november. I hope to put the blue circle logo and something about TuDiabetes. The story begins, and maybe it's an adventure!!!!

The mayor, as with all issues I have written him about, has not responded. Thanks for reminding me. I will try to call his office.

I have been writing about this under the diabetes day pledge section. I meet my councilman at a block party last weekend. He is a diabetic also. I am going to call his office next week. He says Los Angeles has done things for World Diabetes Day in the past. Maybe I just have not been able to find what we are doing now or in the past. I will call next week.
