Here's a poem I wrote only a week ago:

It's Not Just Me

copyright 2009

The doctor says:
"A chronic disease
Injections and medicines
You'll be just fine,
don't worry."

Trying to be strong,
but I can see through
My daddy's draining his life
in front of me

My brother tenses up still
The anger shows in his face
as he chases the monster
that he can't see

My sister's eyes crease
with worry and determination;
Hope fills her to help find
a solution for my body

My mom's guilt drags her;
In words I can't explain
why she feels the burden
of my eternity

My fiance's embrace
tightens with pain
when I tell him I don't understand
or am afraid and weary

I'm killing everyone around
including myself
My body is aching
and betraying me

The doctor says:
"A chronic disease
Injections and medicines
You'll be just fine,
don't worry."

Hi All-

I've been looking for a group like this.
I've published three books (one about the effects of T1D on a relationship) and have an article published April 2009 in Diabetes Health magazine (online edition, until it goes to print next month) I also have multiple poems published in many poetry collections.

Please feel free to check me out at www.KatherineMarple.webs.com or my T1D site: www.FightingTheUnseen.com

Thanks!
I can't wait to see more works from this group!

I'm new here and would like to share one of my published poems from 2001:

Faith Has It Published 9/2001
I look into the sun and it blinds me
But imprints faith and instills perseverance
In an otherwise dark destiny

But we are hopeful
In the awakening of each dawn
May the sun burn its meaning
Into the depths of our subconscious

For there, we find the light
And with it newfound hope
We believe that all will be forgiven
We hope for a new beginning
We pray for peace
We crave understanding

Faith, be our healer. –Gina Marie Worch, 2000

Very cool. A new group for diabetic poets and writers. I'd like to read anyone's posts.

Since I'm new here, I though I'd post the opening of my newest screenplay, a science fiction spec script called "Sunchaser." It's for the newly formed Fox Inkubator, a television studio for animated shows and movies.

"Sunchaser" is animated, in the style of "Ghost in the Shell" or "Spirited Away." But it's not for small children. Some of the imagery is intense and dramatic. The main character of the show is Valdis Croozhe, a marine of Portuguese ancestry who volunteers to investigate thousands of stars going dark at the edge of The Milky Way galaxy. He has a daughter named Emilia ("Emi") who lives on distant Earth and just turned seven. He loves and misses her, and once per episode speaks to her in Portuguese.

His spaceship, The Batalya ("Battler"), is a mid-sized technological marvel equipped with speed, armaments, and three artificial intelligences, two of which are shoot-first, ask-questions-later military types, and one of which is a double of his late wife, Luisa.

The real Luisa perished a year earlier when her star at the edge of the galaxy went supernova.

Thus begins Valdis's journey...

SUNCHASER

First Episode

EXT. - SPACE - ESTABLISHING

A sector of The Milky Way galaxy, spotted with conspicuously fewer stars than people in 2008 see at night, looms. Through deep space, a rumbling approaches. A faint red line emerges to slowly divide the screen. A tiny object appears in front of the red line, gradually approaching.

VALDIS CROOZHE (voiceover):

Have you ever watched a star explode? Ever watched trillions of unstable, superheated helium molecules release in every direction like a firestorm a thousand times brighter than the Sun? Ever watched blinding, scorching fusion tear through space at a tenth the speed of light, incinerating all sound and matter like they never had a right to exist at all?

The tiny object emerges as a racing starship. Close behind, the red line thickens and brightens as rumbling rises into swirling, booming thunder.

INT. - CLOSEUP OF THE SHIP’S DARK-HELMETED PILOT: VALDIS CROOZHE

EXT. - SPACE

Ship roars away from the camera at near-light speed, shrinking fast as it barrels into the void. Waves of screaming nova fire envelop the screen.

VALDIS (voiceover)

Welcome to my universe.

-----------------------------------

So there's the show's opening. This scene is mostly for sharing, but any comments are welcome.

I'd enjoy reading one of your poems, Sohair.
