I went through this once, was put on Lisinopril, took it for two years, eventually decided to try to stop it and haven't had a single problem since. With that said, many of the experts recommend everyone take a low dose of Lisinopril or something like that to guard against future problems. If the med doesn't bother you I don't think it can hurt you. If you hate taking it or want to stop then ask for a retest of your urine to see if it was just a fluke or if you really need it.

Hey Rebecca you stated you stop taking the meds..do you still have protein in your urine? I've only been on the meds for two days now I guess its to early to tell if they are bothering me or not...Thanks for responding!!!

I don't have protein in my urine. As far as I can tell it was one bad test. But who knows. I've been off the meds now for 2 years with no signs of problems though.

I take 5mg for protecting my kidneys. I've been on the same dose since I was 12 :) So far, no issues.

I've only had protein in my urine once and that was when I was pregnant with my son. Supposedly this is a common thing with pregnancy but too much could mean problems. Luckily after I gave birth to my son, it went away and I didn't have to stay on any medication.

hi sharray, i also was told i had protein in my urine. she prescribed linsinopril, and i have been taking it for one month. i was told i have stage 1 kidney disease, so that'sworrying me, but i have read in diabetes forecast that linsinopril has been shown to be effective in protecting the kidneys.

I was on linsinopril for awhile back in 2008 to 2009. Luckily with no insurance it is a $4 generic at Walmart. It worked. I only had to stay on it until there was no more protein. I couldn't go on in 2011 when I had protein in my urine because of the fact that I was pregnant and would not risk the baby with it. Though it straightened back up after I wasn't pregnant anymore.
