I had a stressful very demanding job and with it I exercised less and ate more crap and gained weight and had crappy a1c results. my life and sugars improved after leaving that job

I am have a A1C level of an outstanding 9.2! During this time I have been experiencing fluctuations with my eyes. I can still see very well but I know something is happening. Could this be due to the high A1c???

My husband, also diabetic, had the results of the latest lab work. There are elevated serum creatinine levels. Does anyone know about this? He is going back for a confirmation blood test and from there, I guess back to our physician. Does metformin cause this?

I have an interesting proposition for insurance possibilities for those who live in CALIFORNIA ONLY. My insurance agent told me of a way to acquire insurance through a "loop hole". I don't know if this will work in other states so that is why I am only asking for diabetic California residents to contact me.

I am not sure if I can or should solicit this on this website. I prefer to tell people by personal email.

So if you are uninsurance, underinsured or looking for a 2nd insurance please contact me .....only if you live in CALIFORNIA.

Christalyn,
Your question is a very good one. I think that you are correct that work stress can contribute in a negative way to diabetes. Stress can exacerbate many conditions including diabetes. I have noticed that my BG values increased when under stress. As you pointed out, some jobs are always stressful and then you might not have a clue that problems controlling BG could be related to your job.

I have found that when under stress that increasing exercise works for me. Even ten minutes of walking during lunch and/or climbing stairs instead of taking an elevator helps keep my BG under control.

Hi Christalyn,

My job is not too stressful, but I do wonder how much stress could have contributed to my condition. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes around 2007 (?), but it was well controlled with diet and pills. Then about a year ago my husband and I separated. I had a really stressful time for several months before my blood sugars became uncontrollable. No matter what I ate, my blood sugars were high to the point where I had to start injecting insulin. It makes me wonder if the sudden progression of my disease had a lot to do with the amount of stress I was under.

Does any body feel their job was a factor their the development of their diabetic condition? Do you feel it contributes to your current condition?

In my case I would definately say yes. Working night shift for 6 years didn't help. I am under stress and expected to work crazy hours at my job now which adds more stress with me.

picklebird, the quickest way to get here is to click on the My Page link at the top of every page. Then on your page will be listed the groups you belong to.

one thing--I have trouble finding this Type 2 site from Tudiabetes. it doesn't seem to pop up under forum, blogs or groups, but I find it if I click from an email sent to me. What am I doing wrong?
two thing--anyone try to vary their total daily carb intake as a way to control BG swings? I mean one day you might allow yourself a total of 150 g (meals are more frequent, still same limits per meal) and another you buckle down to 100 or 110g. I'm thinking that at least for me, three days in a row of over 150g will get me swinging too high and I'm pouting why am I spiking now?
