TuDiabetes

Changed my infusion set yesterday on my Animas 2020 (was using the Inset II ) - went to bed after doing a bolus correction - woke up 3 hours later - 20 mmol/l - injected insulin - 2 hours later - 18 mmol/l - threw out the pen needle cartrige - put in new one - injected again - BG's started to come down - and new infusion set put in place. Strange - no alarm went off - but cannula as you can see - NOT IN ME!!! First time - hopefully last - abit scary.

Anna, I like how you turned to the needle from the get go (at the 20mmol =360mg/dl point). A lot of insulin dependent diabetics would have kept bolusing with their pump not getting any insulin. It could have been much worse if you would not have bolused manually.

Hey Ahmad - I use the Animas 2020 infusion set called the Inset II - it's an all-in-one infusion set + insertion device (luckily the plastic casing can be recycled) - so no inserter like you would use with the MM pump. We think what may have happened in the photo I posted is that the needle in the factory went thru' the canula - so even tho' when I pulled the needle out after inserting it into my skin - and it look straight like it always do - in actual fact - it had gone thru' the canula bit that's bent - and never entered into my skin. That's the only thing I can think of - as it all sounded normal when I put the infusion set in. Here's a link that shows the Inset II - http://www.animas.ca/insulin-pump-infusion-sets.aspx

OUCH! Sorry to hear that happened to you. Do you use Quick-Inserter?
