- I was part of the DCCT study (standard group) back in the late 80's that eventually proved that "intensive insulin therapy" i.e. pump or multiple injections was the way to go for better health and control. After the study was complete a follow up study was started to monitor the health of those in the study for the rest of their lives. I am in the Northwestern University arm of the EDIC study
