- No one In my family Had diabetes. I suffered with high blood pressure. I got out of high school in 1976. Have worked out off and on from then to now. Look good if I must say so myself for 53. I was put on Toprol XL 50mg. This I was told by another Dr. that the Toprol raised my suger level, body was no producing the insulin needed. So now comes the diabetes...! My level's are between 98-125 how many units should I be taking. My Dr has me doing 30mg in the morning and 34mg's @ night.
