"Ug, after replying to this, I'm finding myself in a similar situation. BGs of about 280-300 all day without eating. A 400 overnight. I've got bronchitis and a sinus infection, a nasty bug all week long. I'm on cipro. Confirmed with…"

"When I have a sticky high, I up my temp basal for an hour to about 2x the normal. My basal might be from .9 to 1.6 depending on the type of day. But I often find that a temp basal set to 3 u/hr + the correction or enough insulin for about 15 g of…"

Type 1, Short term health insurance question

Started a new job but the insurance coverage won't kick in until March 1. I have coverage from my old job (the company went out of business) through the end of January.Cobra would cost me about $850--and I'd just need it for one month. Does anyone know an insurance company that would write a 30 day policy for a type 1 in good health? I'm looking for something with a high deductible, and I'm fine on my supplies for a few months. I just need something to protect myself for one month. I still need…See More

"I really like my Omnipod. A little transparent medical tape you can pick up at any pharmacy is a big help in keeping them on--the tape I use looks like, and is about the same size as, a Scotch tape dispenser. No tubing and waterproof are the things…"

Mike Ratrie replied to Paul's discussion 'Post-prandial spike, then low'
"From your description and some of the comments here, I would definitely focus on getting your basal rates fine-tuned. Not the most fun exercise in the world, since it involves skipping some meals and you have some risk of going low when you discover…"

Paul replied to Paul's discussion 'Post-prandial spike, then low'
"Thanks Elizabeth--I started with one basal rate, as a sort of baseline. I've only been using the pump for a few weeks. With Lantus, I was seeing rises in the morning without eating. With the pump, the rise in the a.m. is very small. That's…"

Elizabeth replied to Paul's discussion 'Post-prandial spike, then low'

People in this community are using the Glucosurfer freqeuently and infrequently but I wish I could motivate more to do so. Although our project allows full anonymity it may be problematic to post a link under a user account in a social community. I think people still fear to be identified by their photo etc. Thus I am offering to speak on behalf of our users in this community. This way someone could seek help and share their diary and the real identity will not be revealed to the public.

The CGMS data available on the Glucosurfer main page (Demo 3) can be a little frustrating. This user has good control but the tendency of going low should be considered too. This is reflected by a considerably high ADRR value in the Diagram 'Glucose - Proportional Trend - Statistics'. The ADRR is a risk indicator for the deviation of the blood glucose. It sets the achieved level of control in contrast to the deviation. Thus good control paired with a good ADRR is something I try to achieve.
