Doctors first suspected I had Gestational Diabetes 26 years ago when my baby was very large, but fasting glucose test was negative, several times. Dad and his sister were "Late Onset Type 1 Diabetics." Nov. of 2010, my Fasting BG was "just a little high" during routine physical, and Internist suggested I just exercise more and lose a few pounds - but I was worried. Aunt lost a leg, later died of stroke and diabetes complicates in her late 60's! A BG meter quickly showed my Fasting 's good, but eating sent me sky high, over 200 anytime I ate more than 18-20 carbs. Internist Insisted "No Big Deal - Prediabetes." Great Endocrinologist at Medical School looked at my meter and said: > 3 readings over 200? You are Diabetic! 8 Months later got DNA confirmation it was MODY-3. By Summer 2012, became Brittle and BG's volatile with some scary crashes. Caring for dying aunt and associated stress also seemed to exacerbate spikes. Approved by Insurance for Minimed Pump and CGM in September. Pump started 10-3 and one month later for CGM. Quickset 6mm 23 in Insertion Set. Amazing difference in BG stability and early warning of sensor very helpful. However, it turns out I am highly sensitive. Perhaps have a reaction to glucose spikes that is a lot like fibromyalgia? MD's are investigating treatments. The adventure continues.
