A lot of hospitals have health fairs at least once a year. There you can get free A1C testing, free meters and strips, feet inspections, and some diabetic lectures and much more. Call you local hospital and ask for the education department or diabetic educator and he/she will let you know about these fairs, support groups ,and classes.

did you ever find a class or other resource to learn about diabetes? Your insurance company might actually have nurses on staff with whom you can speak. Health Alliance does anyway. Also, most hospitals have dieticians and diabetic educators on staff. by the way, does Stein's Deli still exist? I used to go there when I was a kid whenever my family would visit my grandparents.

I saw your question about a Diabetes class where you can talk to nurses and stuff? Your Doctor should know an endocrinologist who will know about these. But, you would probably benefit more from a one-on-one session with a certified diabetes educator/nurse since you have had D for a while. Dietitians can be good too! Hospitals usually have a diabetes center associated with them. You could try looking that up too. =)
