I had a cool dream

I was walking around town, and I saw a cafe. It just had a gigantic letter on top of it "D", I walked in with my son, and asked the waitress for the carb count of the childrens menu. She knew exactly what I was talking about without the roll of the eyes "damn atkiners". I asked her what diet soda she had, and she had diet 7-up, and didn't blink when I ordered diet soda for my two year old. As we settle down, I hear conversations, people checking their blood sugars, needles, meters, strips stuck… Continue

oh yeah, my son turned 2!

on august 23rd Tony celebrated his second birthday. We didn't have anything planned really, just a box of cake mix and frosting cause we thought we would be in a hurricane, but that went to Mexico instead. So we stayed inside and played with toys and ate too much cake. Pretty amazing since he almost died only 3 months ago. He snoozed and I finished up his video, I posted it here called "Tony's story".

Here's Tony and his cake, I really suck at baking. I can cook real great meals but I

LIVING with Diabetes Contest Entry:Group 3: Parents, spouses and friends of diabetics

We've been living with diabetes since May. When we brought our son home as a newborn, we had an adjustment period, we had to adapt to another life. So I look as diabetes as bringing home the most brattiest unruly toddler ever and we're adapting again. Mr. Diabetes likes to throw hissy fits at 2 am and go low. He has my son eating at certain times because he needs nph. He leaves little marks on my sons fingers and injection sites to remind us he's here! He's never predictable, just when every blo… Continue

So I suck at this whole blog thing

But just want to say life is great! Tony has been out of his honeymoon for awhile now and it's a huge relief-not exactly "stable" since I hate that term but it's not as scary. His vocabulary is exploding, he's a little behind compared to other kids his age but I know not to compare, he's always been advanced more physically than verbally. He's going to turn 2 this month, I get all teary thinking about it since back in May I had a night of thinking he wouldn't live to see this birthday and he'

just joined

that nose picker in my profile pic is Tony. He's 22 months old and was diagnosed with t1 diabetes two months ago. He loves getting tested (which is a relief), he likes watching it and tries to help. He's okay with the shots. He's on nph and novolog. His honeymoon period ended a few weeks ago.

I stay at home with him, have since birth. My husband works offshore, so it's just me and him most of the time. My husband was in the navy, he just got out. We are glad he did, we have a feeling i

I just read your thread on Noni Juice and laughed at your last comment about blue green algae. Did you grow up near Klamuth Falls? I had CFIDS years ago and a friend, also with CFIDS, sold the algae. I can't tell you how many boring meetings I've gone too about algae. I do believe the algae has some benifits as all green drinks do but, not nearly as many as they claimed. - LOL

PS - the taste of the algae pills were horrid!

I had to come and read your blog after I saw your adorable nose picker! My heart goes out to you and Tony. My son was diagnosed last year. he's 9. I was diagnosed when I was pregnant w/ him. I know exactly what your talking about w/ the eye rolls when you want them to verify if it's in fact diet soda or how many carbs are in the meals. Do you have a Carb King book. Great resources for restaraunts. Take care, Lorene

Hey Alison! I'm so glad I found your discussion on that re-DONK-u-lous article about Type 1 being caused by overeating. Yes, the media will sensationalize the story -- and deliberately ignore checking their facts. Also – I see Tony just turned 2! Happy belated birthday!!

Hi Alison,
That photo reminds me of a photo I look of my neice... she was all dressed up and I wanted to take a nice photo... and ended up with one of her looking directly at the camera while picking her nose!!
I hope you are coping ok with everything!

Hi Alison.
That picture reminds me of my daughter Olivia who is 2 years old (dx 6/12/2007). When I tell her not to pick her nose she thinks it is funny and she will leave her finger in her nose just to get me going. LOL. My daughter is still honeymooning. Is it now better to regulate him now that he is out of the honeymoon stage? Was it a gradual transition?

Hi Alison,
I saw the nose picker and like a bug to a light, had to venture over and check him out, LOL. I hope you're holding up OK especially since Tony was recently diagnosed AND your husband is away a lot. I was in a similar predicament back when my son was diagnosed, so I can imagine how stressed you are. I'd like to add you as a friend if you don't mind.
