I am interested in the 'next generation' of diabetes treatments. It looks like islet cell regeneration is definitely making some headway and safer, longer-lasting insulin is finally on the radar! Most importantly -- I'm looking forward to hearing mo…

Nothing is more frustrating than a chronic high sugar -- even when you are feeling like it's getting down again ;( Even worse? Treating and getting little or no results! I've had the phenomenon of feeling low when I'm still in the 200s. Reason being…

Okay, I have a funny one. When I was in the hospital at diagnosis (BG=619 mg/dl, DKA), I was misdiagnosed by the on-duty endo as having Type 2 because I was 35 years old (ignoring the clearly Type 1 etiology). My nurse, a supremely kind and wise wom…

Hey ;) Yes, I did have a kidney transplant on May 11th. So far all is going well. I would like to be enrolled in an islet cell transplant trial within the next few months to try and protect this kidney. It's a never-ending story, this diabetes ;) Th…

Macular edema?

Has anyone experienced macular edema? If so –what were you able to do to mitigate the blurriness?

P.S. I have already seen a retinal specialist twice. I may get a corticosteroid injection in January.

Wow a kidney transplant. My goodness, I hope you are ok. Was it diabetes related? I live about 20 mins away from you and am 30 years old so I am very curious what happened. Rich

Good to see a profile of somebody in her thirties who has had diabetes for as long as you have. Back when I was diagnosed (1982) we operated in the dark ages. I learned mostly from mistakes. I'm going on twenty-eight years of injecting insulin and am mostly frustrated by the economic issues we face with the disease. I've spent a good portion of my adult life uninsured and have turned to research to cover my meds. So far I don't have any major complications.
