Amy replied to Robyn's discussion 'How many Test Strips do you use in 1 month? Just Curious.'
"1 when I wake up, 1 more before I eat (as it's usually a bit later), 1 two hours after I eat, 1 before exercise, usually 1 more or so during exercise, especially if I have insulin on board or feel wonky, two more meals like the first so thats 4…"

Amy replied to sdkate's discussion 'How much to tell?'
"I try to keep all of my doctors within the same facility because I'm terrible at keeping up with all of my specific info (especially things I'm used to) and it's so much nicer when they share a database. That doesn't always work,…"

Amy replied to Mike's discussion 'UHC and Edgepark are trying to kill all type 1 diabetics for profit'
"I've never had a problem with UHC (except for the one time they dropped me from my insurance for a month, but I think that was a problem with my employer, not exactly UHC) but I don't have to use Edgepark. I've heard nothing but…"

Amy replied to Austin Pereira's discussion 'Dexcom Case'
"I love mine. My only complaint is that there were only two sizes. A mid range one would have been perfect for me as I have to pull the large very tight and the small would have been too small...but I got over it :P"

Amy replied to sebabella's discussion 'Fear of getting blood drawn'
"Ugh. I hate getting my blood drawn. I've had some horrible experiences, but I go in, take a deep breath, and try to chat about something else."

Amy replied to David (dns)'s discussion 'Not A Big, Earth-shaking Question, But I'm Curious What Others Do'
"I also used to get store brand and had to throw many away as they dried out before I used them. After two boxes of that, I switched to BD and haven't had a problem since."

Amy replied to Sarah's discussion 'Controlled vs. Uncontrolled'
"I've never understood the line between controlled and uncontrolled. As a kid, I always aimed for a (doctor prescribed) 7 a1c, and usually achieved that, but I was always labelled as "uncontrolled" on my charts. I assumed that's…"

Amy replied to Michael Nelson's discussion 'Perscription hell'
"I've always been told that I would ideally have both an endo and a PCP, though for much of my life the only doctor I went to with any regularity was my endo. Diabetes aside, I've never really had a need for a PCP and my endos have always…"

Amy replied to kphil06's discussion 'Loss of speech'
"This happens to me when I have migraines. Enough to where I thought it may be seizures, but I was told that's just the way it is. My favorite story is from when I was 15 or 16 and I couldn't verbalize "I have a migraine." And I…"

Amy replied to guitarnut's discussion 'Endo Nerves'
"I freak out, too. I always figured it was left over from my teenage/college years when my visits were few and far between and therefore more nerve inducing. Without fail, though, I always panic and want to cancel my appointment the day or so before…"

Amy replied to dishers's discussion 'Test strips where do you dispose of them?'
"I stick them in the velcro compartment of my meter. When it fills up I throw them away. Sometimes this leads to really unfortunate used test strip avalanches, but I've never been able to stick to another routine. Clearly the avalanches…"

Amy commented on Jen's blog post 'Me as of late'

Amy replied to Dave's discussion 'I admit it: I treat based on my G4 CGM alone'
"Normally I'm with you on not letting endo's intimidate you...but in this case she was willing to write me a prescription for the strips and fight my insurance to get them...so I'll stick myself a few more times a day :p"

Amy replied to Dave's discussion 'I admit it: I treat based on my G4 CGM alone'
"I used to do it a lot more than I do now. The only reason I stopped is I changed endos and she scolded me for taking insulin without doing a fingerstick first (My pump told on my :() I still regularly treat lows with it and I have few problems. :)"
