Amy replied to krisa's discussion 'Insulin treatment and organised exercise'
"I try to really make it sound like not a big deal. I also fudge it a bit and tell them I've had this since I was a baby, so it's really no big deal. For what ever reason, that makes people more comfortable than "I've had this…"

Amy replied to vladi's discussion 'Finally started pumping'
"My reservoirs are big fat plastic syringe barrels...so I'm not sure that it's just that it's plastic...maybe it's the kind of plastic?"

Amy replied to Scott A's discussion 'Am I the only one who never had any meaningful 'diabetes instruction'?'
"You know, it's funny. As a kid they never made me take my shots or check my sugar in the office, but in high school they made me go to the office to drink juice if I was low...of all things to be weird about..."

Amy replied to vladi's discussion 'Finally started pumping'
"Huh...I'm not a mini med pumper and I order through animas...so maybe that's why? I've never seen the option on the site, so I never thought to ask...I definitely will next time!"

Amy replied to vladi's discussion 'Finally started pumping'
"I don't think the site alone is available for the metal sets...otherwise that would be awesome. As it is now, if I can keep track of the tubing, I do try to use it...but with 3 cats in the house things have a way of moving and becoming less…"

Amy replied to vladi's discussion 'Finally started pumping'
"I change my sets every two days and I get 4-5 days out of a reservoir, so I often just change the set and not the reservoir/tubing. I was told that Humalog and Novolog are "ok" for up to 7 days in a pump, whereas Apidra degrades after 48…"

Amy replied to Scott A's discussion 'Am I the only one who never had any meaningful 'diabetes instruction'?'
"Ha depends on what you mean by "meaningful." I don't remember too much of my initial diabetes instruction...at all. I think because I was 13 they were trying to tell my parents most of it, but my parents kept trying to explain that it…"

Amy replied to MarkR's discussion 'Upgrading from Ping to Vibe, New Transmitter Needed?' in the group Animas Insulin Pump Users
"I got the same call from both dexcom and diabetes specialty center (who is my 3rd party distributor.) I got my new transmitter in November, so I would have to pay out if pocket. I told them no thanks, I'm happy to use my vibe as a pump without…"

Amy replied to Lana's discussion 'How has diabetes affected your marriage?'
"I'm not married, and I was diagnosed when I was 13 so I had no "partner" of any kind, but I have dated with the same success as anyone and my current decision not to be married was a mutual one where both my boyfriend and I decided…"

Amy replied to Tamra's discussion 'CGM Alone'
"I'm pretty sure you can still get a stand alone dexcom (for now) which is what I use and I love it. As far as any others..I have no idea. I'd talk to your doctor...they usually get these ball rolling."

Amy replied to LiL MaMa's discussion 'Air bubbles in tubing'
"Try to think of our pump cartridges as big fat syringes with removable needles. We attach the needle, draw up the insulin, then take the needle off and attach our tubing to the same place."

Amy replied to LiL MaMa's discussion 'Insulin Resistance at night?'
"I have a lot of trouble at night as well...before I got on a pump I was regularly taking two to three times as much insulin to bring down my blood sugar over night (assuming I woke up and caught it.) As it is now, I have my highest basal rates…"
