I love my Omnipod. I wear it around my waist mostly. It is not really that noticeable. Most people will never know unless you tell them. :0)

I have the old PDM, and currently I use Sugarstats to log my bs's, med, and intake. It is slightly cumbersome....is there an easier way?

When I worked in the ICU, they would not accept organs from diabetics or anyone with any type of an infection. It's been a while since I have been in the ICU....it could have changed since then.

Yup! I usually change my pod at night. Waking up with a crazy BS that is not even your fault is NO FUN! I can't imagine having to adjust everytihing for an 18 mo. That must be so difficult!

Much needed support

I am so glad that there is a place where diabetics can talk and discuss problems, frustrations, etc with others that are going through the same thing. I feel that is it already helping me to be more accountable for regurally checking my bs and keeping my diet within the boundaries of what I know I should be eating. I am relieved that there is a place like this to turn to when others just do not understand.

CGM for one week and one week only!!!

This Friday I will have the pleasure of being able to wear a CGM for one week (covered by my insurance!!) I will be blinded to the 'real time' results, but will meet with my MD after results are downloaded, etc.. I am interested to see what my BS's really do.....it's impossible to know....until now. I hope this helps my fine tune my diabetes self-care. I would LOVE to get my A1C below 6.5 (my last reading). We'll see! YAY!

Recognizing silent illnesses

I saw this today, and thought I'd fill out my own version. How fun and thought provoking!!!
1. The illness I live with is: Type I diabetes

2. I was diagnosed with it in the year: 2004

3. But I had symptoms since: a few months before my diagnosis. Hindsight is always 20/20!

4. The biggest adjustment I've had to make is: all the supplies, the hassle, changing the pod, alarms, beeps, counting carbs, guessing carbs.....etc....

5. Most people assume: that only sugar affects my bs and that diabete… Continue

Overcorrections

I had a low last night after dinner....49....I know that it is probably due to the fact I took a correction before I left work. Whenever I get low...I feel so hungry...like I could eat the cabinets bare. I did eat some PB and crackers before bed. I was high this morning...145. :( I just have a hard time limiting what I eat when I have a low...then I end up over correcting. This is really aggervating and wonder if anyone else has any tips or ideas, or just experiences the same thing.

Thanks,

Am… Continue

Yes, my insurance covers my DexCom at 85% (I pay the other 15%). I have Aetna, which has very specific guidelines for CGM coverage. You must be a type 1 diabetic with an "underlying" medical issue (e.g. pregnancy, hypo unawareness, dawn phenomenon, etc.). They require a very specific diagnosis code (250.83) to approve coverage.
Which kind of insurance do you have?

If your CGM site starts to come up, try using some medical tape to secure the edges. I've been able to get an extra 2-3 days out of my DexCom using tape. I like this kind:

hi, i saw on another post that your insurance covered the omnipod, I was wondering if you could answer a few questions. How much did it cover or what did you pay? is there any cost for the pods now?
