Hello there..I was just looking to see how many people are from the VA area and came across your profile. I live in Leesburg so we are practically neighbors! I have have had T1 D's for over 25 yrs now and I was diagnosed at age 6 so I understand the difficulties growing up dealing with this. I'm sure it's hard having a child with D's. I have a daughter who just turned 11 and she was diagnosed with celiac disease last year which effects what she can and cannot eat too. Luckily she doesn't have to take shots but it's still difficult for her. If you ever have any questions feel free to stop by! Take care. :0)

Hello! How's it going Lily....have you had the chance to look up any of the groups?....How's your daughter doing?

I am part of the Welcome Committee and was just checking in on you to make sure you are aware of all that TuDiabetes has to offer. We would love to hear from you so here is a helpful link where you can read about all the things you can do in the community.

A few weeks after my son was diagnosed I started researching pumps and felt it would be the best for him. He started on a pump 5 months after he was diagnosed. He's been pumping for a little over 2 years now and we love it. We decided to put him on an Animas pump because it has the lowest basal increments. Since he was 3 at the time he needed the smaller doses of insulin.

Best of luck to you guys.

Hope you find all the information and support you are looking for here. The group that Penny mentioned below is great for parents of children with type1.

Take care,

My daughter was diagnosed last Thanksgiving, and does not have a pump! WE adminster shots on a daily basis. I think more time needs to expire, before we can start using a pump. How did you first become aware of what pump to use?

Hi Andre. I too am the parent of a child with D. My son, Riley, was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 3. He is almost 6 now and uses an Animas pump.

I would like to invite you to join the Parents of Kids with Type 1 group. I hope you find this site as useful as I have.
