Is it Coke or Diet Coke?

Add me to the list that can tell the difference. Instantly. Don't need any test strips. It's Diet Coke for me all the way. I can even tell when they accidently mix up the syrup canisters and let in...

As you wish. Best of luck. I'm going to give you a consultant credit just for being a sounding board. In fact, that will be the credit:

I'm gravitating toward the "Top Chef"/Food show idea because it has the merit of at least being related to the sense of taste. I think it can be done without an extensive cast - in fact only with voiceovers if each of us can do two distinct voices. I don't think one really needs to know the show to do a parody. The primary parody would be of the opening credits which shows a kitchen knife set vertically between the words Top and Chef. Substitute syringe for kitchen knife and that's set.

One signature item of the show (and featured on other food shows) is a slow pan across a particular dish, always on a white background and a nice presentation. (see photos here: http://www.bravotv.com/top-chef/photos/episode-8-rate-the-plate) A brief written description shows at the bottom of the screen and a voice over is either the chef describing the creation or a judge critiquing the dish. e.g. Slow Pan - Shredded Pasteboard Confitte with Elmer's Glue and Jicima sticks. Voiceover - Chef: This is something we serve in my restaurant frequently. I can make it with my eyes closed. Critic: It seems Mike made this with his eyes closed. Although good in concept, the execution was poor, the pasteboard was not well infused with the glue and did not contrast well with the texture of the jicima."

We could do four to five dishes - one really excellent dish and three to four demonstrations of bland, tasteless 'diabetic' food to try to puncture the myth that we only eat saltine crackers and lettuce. Or we could throw in one really bad-for-you meal, like a deep dish pizza.

First we come up with some recipes. We each do two or three with voice over by 10/25 and I can splice them together for the presentation.

Andrew, if the 25th is all you've got, the 25th is all you've got.

My equipment is limited - an HD camera, a Macbook Pro and a copy of iMovie. My editing skills are self-taught. I'm not sure what the logistics of the collaboration would be, but we can work something out, I'm sure.

I have two thoughts on the 'Taste' topic, both of which have limitations on my end.

1. A "Top Chef" parody called "Top Diabetic Chef" in which we show off and describe three or four supremely bland recipes (e.g. shredded cardboard on iceberg lettuce) and the winner is a recipe of good, tasty 'normal' food. Problem: I don't have any actors. I could animate it, though.

2. Sidestep the sense of 'Taste' and make a video about 'good taste' and 'bad taste' in the world of diabetes. Bad taste might be wiping your bloody finger on the table cloth or wearing a garish skin on you insulin pump. Problem: coming up with realistic and interesting 'good taste' items/going overboard on 'bad taste.'

You thoughts are appreciated. BTW, if we end up without a collaborative piece rest assured you'll get credit for whatever you contribute to these two ideas, if I use them.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Andrew,

You mentioned you were interested in collaborating on a Making Sense of Diabetes video. I'm interested. I have some ideas for 'Taste' but I'm struggling with the execution.

Interested?
