Gimme some sugar!!!

Angela 411

So I've had diabetes since I was four years old, got diagnosed on New Years eve. I still remember sitting in the hospital bed looking out my window and seeing the fireworks. I was so upset that I didn't get to go out with my mom and sister and have fun! I'm glad I got diagnosed at such a young age though. because I really have no memory of what it's like to be "normal" and not have diabetes. I've made some pretty big fu*% ups as far as taking care of myself goes. I kinda stopped caring all through my high school years and probably checked my blood sugar about ten times throughout the entire 4 years I was there. That is not an exaggeration, seriously. I kept my sugars perma-high, and now I'm paying dearly for it. I'm a total control freak now about my sugars and I'm proud to say I'm in control again but that doesn't make these damn complications go away! Between nerve damage, low blood pressure, and retinopathy I feel like a 60 year old lady trapped in a 21 year olds body, but I don't let it get me down :) I still think diabetes sucks and I am confident that there will be a cure someday. Maybe not in my lifetime, but I know it will happen.

close call!!!!

I have a love/hate relationship with my diabetes. Today was one of those hate days. I went to go tanning (don't lecture me..I know it's bad) and right in the middle I felt weird and tested and was 42. SO i had to stumble around to get my clothes back on and get outta there, all the while feeling like I would pass out at any moment. Luckily, I made it to my car where I had some juice waiting for me and everything ended swell. BUT it freaks me out to think that I came thisclose to passing out whil… Continue

I was diagnosed when I was 3. Didn't check my sugar through HS either. I went 17 years without seeing a Dr. I am glad I was diagnosed so early, never knew I wasn't normal.

Don't dream, just do it!
In our country we don't have much junk food, or at least it is not advertised like in USA I think.
I am tring to avoid foods like: potatoes, rice and white bread. I eat a lot of vegetables (made in different ways), I am blushing - i don't do sports. And my insulin doses have decreased from levemir 24 + 24, now 16 + 16 and novorapid 4-6 (10 to 12 before) units before my meal.
I am avoiding pump, I have my own reasons for that. And I had a really heavy youth, just like You did. But hey... we r people just like else ;)

What i am saying is that I've done MUCH work to get AC1's like I have today :)
But i had to prove myself that it is doable :) And .. it is!! :)

Angela,

I wish my occupation was more exciting. Like, I was in the mafia running a casino....lol! Maybe I will put that on my profile, hmm!

Hey, your A1c is the best, not too high and not too low. I love having my A1c between 6.3 and 6.9...does it get any better?

Cheers!

Hi Angela! I stumbled across your page and read you were dx'd at 4. There is a group here at TU called "Diagnosed at 4"...check it out when you get a second.

Hope you are having a wondeful day!

Danny
