My son was diagnosed September 26, 2007 and it broke my heart. I thought the sky was crashing down on me. Now I see my teenager, young man have you, growing up and becoming more and more responsible at a much faster pace.

He was DKA and slipping into a coma when he was diagnosed. I knew something wasn't right and that it wasn't just "viral" as I was told the 3 times I brought him to the dr's office before his diagnosis.

I am amazed at his strength. From day one, he insisted on checking his own sugar, giving his own shots and learning everything he can about this disease. I remember we were falling asleep in the Pediatric ward and it was about midnight. He sat up and said "Mom, am I going to die?" I said "NO!". He said "Good... I don't want to die", and then he layed back down and fell asleep.

He is my strength every day. He is my Angel...

It becomes, not easier, but it is just regular maintenance, like grushing your teeth. Sometimes I have inexplicable highs and lows, but I am fortunate not to have hypo unawatreness, nor major complications.. REmind your son of the MANY diabetics who are professional athletes, moms, dads, and can be anything that they want.!!!

What a wonderful mom you are to be so rightfully proud of your son!! I was diagnosed 41 years ago at the age of 13 and I know how difficult it can be to be a teen diabetic... God Bless You and your family!!!

We are struggling a little bit with Byron and his control. He is forgetting to bolus every day and so his bg's are all over the map. It is so frustrating. I just forgets. Even if reminded, he forgets. It reminds me of Miles a year ago so I think it is the "teen" thing...Other than that, just fine. Byron has a slow week next week so call if you want to get together.

Hi Angela,
I am sure you nervous as hell but he is in the best hands he could be. At a diabetic camp? Who could take care of him any better (besides mom of course). I really hope you take that time to relax and have some adult beverages. You deserve it!
